HUGE NEWS! Biden DESTROYS CHINA With NEW EV Mandate! - YouTube
    Duration: 9:40.

Here is something that shows that President Biden is smart in an economic sense. When taking business classes, I learned that products from a foreign market can come into a developed market like the West and out-compete the native companies that can't compete. This is also a sign that protectionist policies and the post-globalization world are taking hold. This is a good thing despite the gloom and doom news from the EV auto industry.

Is this more than a gimmick to 'prove' that Biden doesn't work for China and other interests?

    Prolly a good idea.

But this'll be an interesting turn of events for all those places that are banning the manufacture of fueled cars, given their expectation that cheap Chinese EVs would be a big part of the solution...

Everything Joe Biden has done so far has backfired,
and although really a nothing burger,
even this just might turn into a more serious tit-for-tat
    somewhere down the road.

How about call off all EV mandates and make it illegal for states to mandate EVs. That's is the solution. Not pushing forward with this ecological disaster.

There should be absolutely no subsidy for electric cars.

It's just calling off the mandate without admitting that it was as stupid as we all know it was.

Well, what they are proposing is simply to not give the tax credit to people who buy EV's with Chinese batteries or materials or made by anyone with significant ties to the chinese government (or Russia, North Korea, or Iran). Making the american cars more expensive isn't about protectionism. He is building a pretext for delaying the transition to EV's because they will all end up more expensive because the US simply cannot replace China in any near term way in providing rare earth materials. Dollars to doughnuts is he bargained this for concessions to end the auto workers strike--you GM give in some and I will find a way to scale back those impossible to reach fuel efficiency standards coming up.

Dems would have to stop blocking the mining of rare earths and other metals if they want to have fully domestic supply.

You can't prove a negative. I have yet to see anyone substantiate the claim that Biden does work for China and "other interests," however.

I don't think there's a constitutional basis to prevent states from banning the manufacture of fueled cars. Not anymore than there is to prevent them from banning abortion, for example. I do agree that banning fueled cars is stupid and reckless, but the legislative autonomy of states to self govern (even when the governing is stupid and reckless) is important.

Certainly there should be no federal subsidies for EVs tho.

Even that won't work. The power grid is nowhere near capable of supporting all or even most people charging their cars as opposed to burning fuel. Ostencibly the pushers of EVs are hoping everyone will go solar, but given the cost of a solar system that will not only charge your house, but charge a car within several hours, they either don't understand the financial limitations of the vast bulk of consumers, or they don't care that most people will no longer be able to afford to drive anymore.

...or they're hoping that most people won't drive anymore.

Democrats in California have actually made it much less viable for people to get roof top solar. They don't even want people to get solar any more but still want to shut down all the power plants. They truly just want to destroy civilization and make electricity a rationed thing.

This sort of electricity crisis will force the release of top-secret, compartmentalized power sources! At least, I hope so. We have plenty of ways to make electricity. We just need to use them. :)

Just living in reality, you should try it sometimes. I got my solar installed last April right before they switched from Net Metering 2.0 to 3.0 where they cut the pay rates for selling energy back to the grid by 80%. Maybe learn what you are talking about before you post?

Funny how all the complainy conservatives seem to live in California or New York. Sounds like you're a wealthy property owner with first world problems:

    In summary
The utilities commission reduced payments to apartments, schools and businesses selling solar power to the grid despite a barrage of criticism. Commissioners say it reverses unfair subsidies.

That was last week. Now look at April 15th when they switched from Net Metering 2.0 to Net Metering 3.0 and slashed the amount homeowners get by selling solar power to the gride by 80%. I got in just under the dead line so am in Netmetering 2.0. All new people get screwed here in California so it is often no longer even financially worth it anymore.

I paid $24,000 cash to have my system installed (got an oversized inverter so I could expand it later without getting put into Netmetering 3.0) but the pay back rate was still over 10 years. New system buyers might never get a pay back on investment. So, yes, here in California Dems really have been disincentivizing solar for homeowners as well as apartment owners and commercial building owners. It is all talk with them.

How many of Biden's promised 500,000 charging stations have been built?? What was the taxpayer investment for these charging stations? I recall 7.5 Billion with 15 Billion requested. lol

Like PT Barnum said. One born every minute.

So liberals. Where are the 500,000 charging stations that Biden was going to build? A simple question really -- but for some reason I don't expect a real answer.

I looked into solar for my home. The ROI was 15 years at best. And the initial cost was high. How many solar contractors are in business for the long run? I looked into an EV once, i.e., Nisson Leaf once. Was not sure I could get to the dealer and back in cold weather. Maybe for the short term we should go back to the Geo Metro with stick shifts? There was a version of this car that got 82 MPG. lol

It seems electric cars with gasoline generators are pretty efficient. No transmission and a small engine that can just run at its optimal RPM seems to offset the loss of energy due to transfer of state pretty well. Sometimes people even just carry a small gas generator in their Tesla. I would imagine there's nothing stopping them from charging while driving to beef up their range (so long as the exhaust vents out...).

There is a common 'conspiracy theory' among car enthusiasts that the Geo Metro was phased out because it was too cheap and too efficient. I dunno about that. I do know a guy who has an old VW diesel Rabbit pickup that gets ~45mpg, but also has a top speed of ~45mph.

What has Biden done for China? It is a lot easier to think of things Trump did for China.

Does this mean Biden will be lifting all the bans in mining rare earth minerals in The United States?
