Duke has not been big news since Edwards beat him, and Trump has clearly not been a close follower of political news. Trying to tag Trump with the Klan was never likely to gain much traction.
Trump, unlike professional politicians always has the advantage of plausible deniability. He has repeatedly proved that he has little knowledge regarding many issues. His focus has never been politics. The voters know that. It is political armor plate for Trump. The professional strategists who are desperate to land a telling blow are dumbfounded. They have spent a great deal of time and money on wasted attack lines. It is almost too late for them to figure out how to take down Trump. D. Duke and the Klan will not do the trick.
It is a meme that won't die among liberals, who wouldn't have voted for Trump anyway, but could be energized against him. And liberals mix with independents who might still be considering who to vote for. The support of the Klan can be poisonous, whether you asked for it or not. I don't think for a second that Trump ever wanted the Klan's support. He's not that stupid.
I have listened to a great deal of evidence that would destroy any other candidate. Trump's support increases as the attacks intensify. Clearly no one understands exactly why. The very low credibility of the MSM is probably a big factor. Cruz/Clinton/Kasich might not put a dent in Trump with video of him in a sheet lighting a Klan bonfire.
Trumps support has been increasing among conservatives. That will help him get the nomination. But liberals, and to a significant degree independents, view him very negatively. That will make it harder to win the presidency. A lot hangs, of course, on how willing conservative voters are going to be to get behind trump if he's nominated. Conservatives who don't support him often dislike him strongly.
It will be ignored as just another now routine incredible political attack. The professional political advisors have been using the 'cry wolf' tactic for decades. It has always worked - until now.
Much of the RP conservative movement despises Trump. He has been winning primaries without them. He draws from labor and a new super majority who have come to fear Big Government. His support appears to be very bipartisan to me.
Look at his favorables / unfavorables. People who like him love him, but he also has the worst unfavorables in the country. The only demographic he's really appealing to much so far is conservative white males without college education. Now there are quite a few of those, but he needs to expand into other demographics if he's going to win the election. Besides, even among conservative white males without college, plenty of them swing Cruz strongly instead.
It has already stopped working. This may be why: “Record High in U.S. Say Big Government Greatest Threat, Now 72% say it is greater threat than big business or big labor”, by Jeffrey M. Jones, Gallup, 12/18/13. http://www.gallup.com/poll/166535/r...syndication&utm_content=morelink&utm_term=All When I saw that poll I knew we were set up for an antiestablishment populist. Several RP and DP strategy mercs told me I was totally wrong. They were began to catch on after they noted the reaction to the vote on the Cromnibus Spending Bill, but they never imagined anything like Trump. The best thing the DP has going for it is the new RPe advisor nudging Trump to expose himself as a phony.
That is apparently the conventional political assessment. I think it is way off. Polls documenting Trump's ability to win elections have been consistently wrong. IMO, any pivot by Trump toward the political establishment will drive away his supporters. The voting public from left to right is very antiestablishment now.
I read once that Houdini would perform acts wherein you could literally go across the street and buy instructions on how to create the illusion. Still, people showed up in droves to buy tickets to see Houdini, believing he possessed super human abilities. Unless Stump's supporters are faced with the facts, they will not change their minds no matter what. Know this: Stump's basic program is promising to build a wall around the southern half of the U.S. He knows he can't do it; you know it; everyone does. Even if you could do it, would you want to? You already have Constitution Free Zones. Why would you want to keep expanding the area wherein your constitutional guarantees are worthless? The Stump, like most of the rich elite, are drawn to socialism. So, here the Stump can draw the masses in with an idea that cannot make it past the United States Supreme Court and once it fails, what are we left with? The only thing I ask of his supporters is to look at the evidence. Your Rights are on the line this time.
They would rather assuage their minds with an assurance that no one will die of starvation because of their tilting of the playing field than give workers an even break by leveling the playing field. All for losers; nothing for potential competitors. Consequently, the lowest common denominator in the gene pool is enhanced--one of the very real problems with Christianity, by the way, IMO.
A strong detailed case against Trump has been presented to the voting public - repeatedly. What does last night tell you about how voters view his opponents and their credibility? Trump will have to beat himself. Human beings are often tempted to do just that - so cheer up! - - - Updated - - - The rich can thrive under socialism. See China.
With his imperfections, Trump will be far better than the lying, corrupt, murdering Hillary. At least he is a true leader who has accomplished much. Can anyone mention anything positive and important that Hillary has accomplished in her public roles for our country?
I think I've got "My Awakening" packed away some where from my last move. As to branding Cruz I thought Trump was referring to the Cruz campaign telling caucus Carson supporters n Iowa that Carson had dropped and to vote for Cruz. One Texas caller to a talk radio show about a week later said that that was the end of his support for Cruz. The Texan had voted for Cruz but as a Southerner lying was a case of dishonor. That's the way Southrons react.
BS. The 'Media' makes billions off of election campaigns; that's where most of the bribes go for. The media is seriously afraid the Trump campaign is going to prove they aren't worth near the bucks they charge to spin doctor and lie to the public. It means they are no longer capable of controlling public opinion for big business. Hundreds of millions thrown at sinking Trump has gone for nothing, even the shills here are gibbering like 2 year olds, completely hysterical; like yourself, for instance. And for those who think Trump's individual wealth is huge? In the scheme of things it's peanuts, less than peanuts; if you don't believe that just amuse yourselves by totaling up the market capitalizations of companies on the NYSE and NASDAQ, and get back to us. Now, how do you think they feel about not being able to control their captive markets? ...
Hardcore Trumpies, neo-nazis and white supremacists included, all fantasize about being the show business entertainer's next trophy wife. Dream on.
Steve Jobs? the Kennedy clan? Rupert Murdoch? Most of my life, the super rich and the elite have chased after the socialists and liberals in general. - - - Updated - - - The biggest problem with your post is that you tell lies. She has gotten some of the old timers that have experience off their lazy arse and back into the game of fighting liberalism.
If lying is the standard, NOBODY should vote for Trump. In this thread alone, I have given people enough proof to find fifty specific lies that Trump has told. The real deal is, Trump did it to enhance his position as a politician... which is why Ted Cruz does some things he does. OTOH, the deal with Carson wasn't that cut and dried so as to call Cruz a liar. Apply the same standard some let Trump have.
