Whatever man... we all have our opinions of living as a gay person. I'd like to talk to your "friend" personally, in actuality. And as far as I'm concerned... your "friend" may surely be 'yourself'. (If I'm wrong, prove otherwise.)

Faulty premise. If something is a choice, then you cannot argue that anyone is being denied any kind of "civil rights" since everyone would already have the exact same rights. You're simply trying to modify the law to encompass something new based on nothing more than a whimsical "but I wanna."

Remember that if you're trying to change the law, the burden of proof is on you, not on the law.

To me, it has no bearing. There are some abused women who choose to be with woman, and it's not my business.

There are some people who are attracted to both sexes and may choose eventually to be with one of the same sex in a lifetime committed relationship and that is not my business.

I cannot for the life of me discern why everyone cares so much about what other people choose to do with their lives if it is not harming anyone.

The term "civil rights" is a big tent. I'm sure Christians would be crying that theirs were being violated if prayer was banned from public/schools/the military, even if it applied to everyone.

The fact of the matter is mainstream Christians or religious people in general have never really had to fight for the right to practice openly in America, since it was founded on that principle. Gay people have had to fight execution, fight for the right to have sex (as recently as 2003), fight for the right to serve openly, and now fight for recognition of their relationships under the law.

These aren't special rights. The right to marry who you love. The right to be open about who you are. The right to not be refused service or have your landlord throw you out. The right to privacy, and the right to live.. (when sodomy was a capital crime).

These aren't radical or PC, they are basic things others enjoy under the guise of "religious freedom". Homosexuality in all honesty predates Christianity and as a biological phenomenon would in fact predate all religions. It is nothing new or modern, people are just aware of it now and western society is beginning to realise, finally, it's not the great evil it was once seen as...

But the choice issue is completely irrelevant, I believe, to the debate on gay rights. Sure, evidence of biological factors (which there are) would make it more comparable to race, for example, but if it was chosen, and more comparable to religion, it's still no grounds to deny rights.

Have you ever had any homosexual desires? (If so, how did you handle them?)
