he is guaranteed a second term. the 14th amendment was never intended to grant citizenship to illegal offspring. it is offensive to common sense that an illegal alien can pop one out on our soil and win the lottery becasue she successfully managed to evade the law and got her vagina aimed in the right direction.

i’ll go one further and say he will go down as the greatest president in my lifetime if he gets it done.

But what do you feel about the children of legal permanent resident aliens (aka green card holders). I can see how we could reject the children of illegals and temporary visa holders, but it doesn't make sense for permanent resident aliens--people who have decided to make America their permanent residence, albeit they are not yet citizens.

simple, immigration status of minor children follows the parents: citizen births citizen; lawful permanent resident alien births lawful permanent resident alien; illegal alien births illegal alien. the latter are subject to deportation, etc., the first two are not.

Too bad 120 years of SCOTUS precedent disagrees with you on permanent resident aliens.

You realize this would be an important precedent. He would do away with anchor babies with a presidential order. Perhaps the next President could use a presidential decree limiting the right to bear arms in the Second Amendment to people who are members of an official militia like the National Guard or the Reserves.. Be careful what you wish for.

    Permanent resident.....aliens.

    As in, not citizens.

How do two non citizens create a citizen?

    You know what?

Trump should start giving out green cards to Russians as fast as possible.

    That'll solve the problem.

There is no anchor baby amendment.

Luckily we have one for firearms in the Bill of Rights though, and SCOTUS rulings that clearly already decided it.

Just an attempt to show how silly this argument is. There is a process for changing/clarifying the Constitution and that does not involve a President saying "this is what it really means".

The intent of the 14th is clear from congressional debate when it was written.

Trump is simply doing it in a way that he knows Congress and the courts will be forced to deal with it. Congress especially has to be prodded to do it's job.

Still, it's a valid question, especially when you go back and look at the congressional debates on the 14th from 1866.

This is not silly in any way.

    It's imperative.

That is pretty much how every supreme court decision involving the constitution is made. Someone challenges the meaning of the constitution or some other law and the supreme court rules on it. It is hard to find a decision where it is not a matter of interpretation.

too bad you had to deploy a fallacy to make your point.

in my view, the immigration status of the family unit is the rational determinant of the immigration status of each member therein. minor children brought to the usa receive the same status as the parents. those born here have the same status. when their parents become citizens, they become citizens.

    What about them?

If you are born and your parents aren't legal residents then you must have an application filled out also.

    No exceptions.

The last case on this issue that was in the Supreme Court saw a split decision meaning there are justices that agree with Trump on what the constitution means.

Just a matter of getting enough of them for them to authorize it.

This subject needs to go to the Supreme Court and have them limit the amendment to what was intended in 1866.

    Newton's Third Law applies...

the Globalist/Open-Borders/Amnesty/Sanctuary City crowd have convinced themselves that American citizens will continue to remit taxes to the government of a country that no longer exists.

It’s only a matter of time before the dictator-wannabe-in-chief declares he has the authority to cancel the Bill of Rights and the Constitution itself via Executive Order.

No, that would be the Dems. You know, like they tried to do with Kavanaugh and the presumption of innocence.

It’s actually all 3 branches of government no matter which fake party they grovel to. The difference is this bull in a china shop doesn’t know how to be stealthy. His mouth moves before his neurons have a chance to misfire.

The 14th Amendment is no longer valid unless you believe African slaves still exist here? What justification is there to limit the right to bear arms?

It says that all persons born in the US or naturalized are citizens of the US. Can't be any clearer.
