The internet is both good and bad.

The good, access to huge amounts of information from all over the world.
The bad, corperation control and Wiki, Facebook, Twitter.

Now the bad in reverse order.

Twitter. A internet site based on Japanese Haiku (with none of the poetry) which is completly bland and monotone in content. Example of Stephen Fry. A british comedian who is intelligent and wiity but on twitter he was reduced to talking about his bowl movements every few hours.

Facebook. An idea plagiarised from harvard universty which exploded into the online world, making one american teenager very wealthly. But what is it? A community for horny teenagers who play ripped music while Mr Zuckerberg is busy creating new ways to sell their details to the corperations. Which i will comment on later.

Wiki. Which should have been a world changing idea has been reduced to amatuer journalism and biased content. Many wiki authors should log off in shame.

The Corps. Everywhere look now online, there are adverts. No place to hide. The corperate domination is in full swing. No where is safe. Which brings me back to Facebook. For all those who entered personnal details into that site. Mr Zuckerberg is now selling it, on your behalf.

The electronic highway or world wide web is a good system (it is not the net that is wrong, but bad people, same with fire arms, people pull the triggers), the governments and hackers and porn industry (the big boys behind the scene who make millions, and some well payed hackers/provocators that cause trouble in order that the system gets more and more control over the net) are a danger. A few have caused it to be as it is today (it started civil in 1989 until about 1998,1999, then y2k came and google and everything started to change (artificial, people's websites and ftp's started to disappear, change on tv (in 2004 youtube) has caused social change and changed it to be as it currently is) The social enigeers behind tv programming and google and youtube and the news media, can cause it to change to civil again (but they need this strange/artifcially caused chaos, to push toward their 'order out of chaos' strategies, to get more control, and finally have their global empire, after they have the votes of the masses on their president)

I have a question: Is outer space good or bad? Because I have always felt that outer space is good, the Final Frontier and all that, and where we will eventually colonize the stars and create the Galactic Federation.

But some of my friends think that outer space is bad... they say that dangerous meteorites and asteroids can come flying from space and hit the earth, and that this has happened before in the distant past, and may have even destroyed the dinosaurs. On top of that, space is full of dangerous gamma rays and other types of radiation, and practically speaking, it isn't very useful to us because everything is very very far away, 100s of light years, and even if we found a good alien planet, it would likely have deadly alien bacteria on it. Also, speaking of aliens, there is the ever-present danger of alien invasion by a more advanced planet than ours.

So, I am somewhat ambivalent on this issue. Discuss.

I find Twitter especially useful. If you follow 100+ accounts, you get a constant stream of information in your timeline and it's much better and faster than Facebook. I followed the Zimmerman case on Twitter and covering breaking news stories is what Twitter is especially good at in addition to its celebrity tweets.

The internet is not necessarily the ally of freedom:

    Caught in the net
    Why dictators are going digital

The internet is a good thing. I think it is not isolating, but the reverse. With the internet (specifically Facebook), I can know a lot of goings on of my high school classmates that I would never have known otherwise, for example. My wife even more so.

I'm not too worried about commercial privacy, as long as they are just using that info to make a buck. It's privacy from government that I worry about.

Yes, but the alternative was not getting together, but staring at a TV screen. The internet is much more social than TV can possibly be. The loner in front of his computer screen can talk with loners all around the world.

Facebook has a great purpose--saved me $200 in going to a class reunion :)

The best thing about the Internet is that it has many international and domestic news media sources which refute the lies of the controlled right wing media in the USA.

The US media is pro-Israel and sometimes conservative regarding economic issues but liberal with respect to issues like abortion and gay activism.
