Congress is NOT a prosecutor. Congress has no authority to engage in prosecutions. The DOJ conducted the largest investigation in it's history into the Jan 6 riots no need for a Special Prosecutor. They have issued NO indictments against Trump or anyone working for him or for his family. They just settled the only plea listing sedition as one of the charges. There is NO mention of Trump or anyone at the White House in the charging documents.

And the people engaged believed they were SAVING our Democracy not destroying, get your facts straight.

You are aware that in Florida 2000 the Florida State Legislature was on the verge of decertifying the election results and sending a slate they would choose to cast the states votes in the EC? Had the SCOTUS not stepped in and stopped the illegal and Florida unconstitutional selective recounts and Florida unconstitutional ruling by the FSC and the delays they were causing and threatening the states EC votes the state legislature would have stepped in and chosen the electors.

You do know you have no inherent right to vote for the President and VP of the United States, you only do so by the good graces of your state legislature.

Actually we came close in 2000. And yes the founding fathers made it clear it was up to the State Legislatures to decide how their state electors would be chosen and makes no mention of an election for them. As far as I know most states have a provision for the state legislature to choose those electors if due to challenges to them having them certified and able to cast the state EC votes is threatened.

Congress has the right of investigation.

What they find would be handed over to prosecutors.

    This isn't new.

There were various ways to resolve the Florida fiasco.

Your last paragraph references an issue that was decided by the courts and is not contested today.

No it has a right to hold hearing in order to write legislation. They do not have the Constitutional authority to conduct criminal investigations or let's see if we can find some dirt on someone hearing. What prosecutors find would be handed over to them not the other way around.

    Kilbourn v. Thompson, 103 U.S. 168 (1881)
    The Kilbourn Test
    • (1) Inquiries must not "invade areas constitutionally reserved to the courts or the executive"
    • (2) Inquiries must deal "with subjects on which Congress could validly legislate"
    • (3) The resolution authorizing the investigation must specify " a congressional interest in legislating on that subject."
    • (4) Where the inquiry can result in "no valid legislation," then the "Private affairs of individuals" are not valid targets for inquiry
    https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kilbo...(1880,of Representatives may compel testimony.

The authorizing legislation that created the committee says it CANNOT mark up legislation and mentions no pending legislation.

There was one way, follow Florida election law. Gore tried to change Florida election law so he could find more votes. And the last paragraph has never been decided by a court because it is quite clear in the Constitution and has never been challenged. If your state legislature passed a law stating that in 2024 they would select the states Electors and there would be no election for them they could and nothing you could do about it except vote them our of office next time.

There are something like 700 who are under arrest, many of whom are talking, some of whom have pleaded guilty to organized assault on our government.

There is ONLY one important thing that came out of the Florida example.

That is that the election itself, and the smooth movement toward the next administration is more important than the contestants involved.

And, that is EXACTLY opposite of what Trump and Republicans in general believe.

They believe that armed assault on our democracy is warranted if it looks like they didn't win the election.

Trump and Republicans did not support the riot stop putting thoughts in their heads. Trump had every right to mount the challenges he did just as Trump did. And of course we haven't even touch on the Dems in the Congress who made the same objects to electors in previous elections. Should he have held the rally that day, no and I said so at the time. But he did not order any insurrection or sedition or violence. Some acted on their own and they are being prosecuted. Time to get over it.

They have been pleading to trespassing and obstruction charges both misdemeanors. One has plead to a seditious conspiracy charged. Guess who is not mentioned in this charging documents.

That is what the Jan 6 committee is investigating.

They seem not to be agreeing with you.

You have to be careful with that, as these plea deals aren't that simple. Those signing pleas usually have to state guilt plus promise to support the investigation up through testimony at trial. Plus, it's not unusual for the plea deal to identify lesser charges, and even leaving open the possibility of increased charges in the chance of failure to cooperate.

It's unusual for a plea deal to actually name a perpetrator.

All reports indicate that those involved in storming the place support their idea that they were part of an insurrection.

Are you sure they didn't know what they were doing?

That’s not even close to true lol. Al reports indicate a small percentage believed that and never actually took any action to back it up.

They were in the hallway only a few doors from the room where the count was being certified.

And, the stated that they were there to kill the VP and to terminate the certification.

Others there in the building stated that they intended to kill Pelosi, too, if they saw here.

Both these people were taking part in that certification, and came VERY close to being found.

Let's remember that given success of the insurgency Trump would remain president without there being any process in place for determining the next president.

America's process of democracy would have been terminated.

The Republican part as a WHOLE works that way.

Today's news includes the Republican party claiming they will declare legal war on Democrats if there is progress made toward prosecuting Trump for any crime he may have committed.

Seriously. The ENTIRE PARTY sees Trump as being above the law. And, they are willing to STATE that as a principle!!

If they were even an ounce of as violent and determined to overthrow the govt they would have acted as such. Instead they took selfies.
