Ah, the folks that claim to care about the poor and oppose gun rights for us regular people, support armed agents enforcing tax code/laws that poor people that can't afford good accountants and lawyers, violate regularly.

The new IRS slogan: "We have what it takes, to take what you have!"

Leave it to you to come up with a absurd claim about liberals not wanting to police to deal with crime.

Laws can be abused. People make mistakes on their taxes all the time. This is just an excuse to weaponize the government against people the party does not like?

Workers in These States Would Pay Most Under Biden/Dems’ New Business Tax.

After savaging the American Workforce with mandates, soaring inflation, these bastards have the gall to hundreds of billions of additional taxes backed up by a heavily armed and doubled in size IRS?

It's getting harder and harder for their dwindling number of supporters to defend these greedy self-serving thugs.

I would guess it has more to do if you are a Republican or a Democrat.

I know, that hit a nerve and you didn't have anything better to do but swing out with an ad hom. Facts? Lets use New York, or LA as an example of how democratic DAs aren't enforcing crime in their cities. Now, explain how that isn't democrats not wanting to police.

So, because you're upset, IRS agents should go unarmed into risky situations?

    I don't think so.

Since the majority of individual audits take place either in a headquarters by mail, or in a IRS controlled office, what 'risky situations' are they going to encounter?

IRS Update on Audits | Internal Revenue Service

Standard IRS agents don't go to tax dodgers homes, get involved in hostage situations, or OK Corral type shoot outs.

NYC voted in Eric Adams. Are you suggesting he's anti-police?

Of course, you'll continue propagandizing with your generalizations. Why? Because that's what you do.

The job posting isn't for "standard" agents. It's for Special Agents. Only Special Agents are armed. They work in the Criminal Investigation division (IRS-CI). There are currently 2,100 Special Agents, and the recruitment drive is aiming to fill 300 vacancies, as specified in the full listing, here.:
    https://www.usajobs.gov/job/634575800

As you can see, among other things, a Special Agent "Conducts or participates in surveillance, armed escorts, dignitary protection, undercover operations, execution of search and arrest warrants, seizures, etc.

I doubt they would carry weapons.
Are you a gun-grabber? Why shouldn't IRS special agents have firearms when they're dealing with violent or potentially violent people?

So all 87,000 positions are for 'Special Agents'? Or just 300....

A job listing. Posted when? Kind of like those ubiquitous job postings on most websites, Now Hiring!

As I stated in my response to clennan, 300 "Special Agents' out of 87,000.

Of course they can carry, if they passed the normal permitting process if required. Most workplaces, including the Federal Government, do not normally permit firearms in the workplace, unless required by the position.

And Trump stated in 2022, 'Now I know why people take the Fifth Amendment'. For once Trump actually learned to keep his mouth shut, lol.
See, we can all learn things. Some people are too stuck on themselves to either admit it, or actually learn it.

Translation, huh, you got me, democrats aren't really interested in enforcing crime... In fact, you could say democrats are actively supporting crime, and benefitting financially from it.

    Can't do videos at work.

So no one, regardless of who they are, is allowed to change their position?

He apparently even stated, and I repeat, "Now I know why people take the Fifth Amendment". That's admitting he was wrong to criticize it, which is pretty momentous for him. That also means he's not a hypocrite at that point.

    Me? Just a gag reflex.
So, two DAs you claim aren't prosecuting criminals gives you an excuse to generalize about Democrats?

87,000 is an estimate per a 2021 Treasury Dept report of the total number of new hires in ALL departments - from IT to customer service to basic admin, etc. etc. - that would be needed over the next 10 years to bring staffing levels back to normalcy, many of which would be to replace anticipated retirees.

The job listing is the one referred to in the OP title and link, for Special Agents. 300 Special Agents. It was posted on USAJOBS.gov in February.

Not sure of the exact details of the proposal but by way of background the IRS has apparently been underfunded and undermanned, mainly by successive Republican administrations but also Democrat ones for decades (I wonder why? ). If the complaints are to be believed this process has steadily eroded the Agency's ability to conduct audits and complex fraud investigations, all of which have declined in number. IRS officials have been complaining about it for years and pointing to billions in uncollected taxes being the result. Under its current head from memory several thousand redundancies or cutbacks were planned if not implemented as a cost saving measure.

As I said I'm not aware of the details but the increased funding for the IRS is probably part of the give and take that Biden had negotiated to get legislation through congress. Republicans may refute the entire idea of tax hikes but much its harder to argue against funding the proper administration of the tax system and rates you do have and increasing revenue that way.

It's also pretty much guaranteed 75,000 new IRS agents won't be hired in one hit. Even in America there wouldn't be a big enough pool of qualified/interested applicants, especially with the job market so tight. Plus the cost would be enormous if they were on-boarded at once. So recruitment will be phased in over several years. A lot more people are going to be getting polite letters from the IRS in future years. And the big end of town is in for some very 'special' attention because that's the segment of the market that's most expensive and time consuming to audit/investigate and the one that has been most neglected.
