    Week 1

Human brain development starts soon after the sperm penetrates the egg. (Ratey, John J., MD. A User’s Guide to the Brain. P 23. NY:Vintage Books, 2002.)

    Week 1-4

Neuron proliferation begins and is complete by 24 weeks. The process of neuronal migration begins at about the same time and tapers off by about the 30th week. (Karr-Morse, Robin, and Meredith S. Wiley. Ghosts from the Nursery. P 52-53. NY:Atlantic Monthly Press, 1997.)

    Week 2

By the 14th day, the tiny ball of multiplying cells begins to fold in on itself. This movement activates the genes in cells that will form the nervous system. (Ratey, John J., MD. A User’s Guide to the Brain. P 23. NY:Vintage Books, 2002.)

    Week 3

Brain cells begin to work, multiplying more rapidly than other body cells. (Healy, Jane M., PhD. Your Child’s Growing Mind. P 12-14. NY:Doubleday, 1987, 1989.)

Three weeks after conception auditory neurons first appear. (Schwartz, Jeffrey M., MD, and Sharon Begley. The Mind & the Brain. P 124-125. NY:Regan Books, 2002.)

At some stages 250,000 new neurons are formed every minute. (Brynie, Faith Hickman. 101 Questions Your Brain Has Asked About Itself But Couldn’t Answer, Until Now. P 19-20. CT:Millbrook Press, 1998.)

    Week 4

The future brain and nervous system first become apparent when a portion of the outer ectoderm thickens to form a spoon-shaped structure only one cell thick known as the neural plate. A neural groove runs the length of the neural plate, dividing it into right and left halves. (Restak, Richard, MD. The Secret Life of the Brain. P 2. Washington D.C.:The Dana Press and Joseph Henry Press, 2001.)

    Week 5

The fetus moves arms and legs, turns and bends body, head and back. It gains muscle practice with little effort in the gravity-free environment. (Ludington-Hoe, Susan, PhD, with Susan K. Golant, MA. How to Have a Smarter Baby. P 16. NY:Bantam Books, 1985.)

    Week 6

...The fetal auditory system is nearly complete. Every cell is influenced by the energy reflected in sound waves. (Pearsall, Paul, PhD. The Heart’s Code. P 110. NY:Broadway Books, 1998.)

    Week 8
...By the eighth week, the fetus will kick when poked. (Karr-Morse, Robin, and Meredith S. Wiley. Ghosts from the Nursery. P 52. NY:Atlantic Monthly Press, 1997.)

By the eight week, the brain has developed its three parts. (Ratey, John J., MD. A User’s Guide to the Brain. P 23. NY:Vintage Books, 2002.)

By seven and a half to eight weeks the fetus is able to experience sensation when reflex responses to somatic stimuli begin. (Derbyshire, Stuart W. G., PhD. The Science and Politics of Fetal Pain.)

    Week 9

About the 9th week the fetus responds to upsets by flexing its torso and extending its head. (Ornstein, Robert, PhD. The Roots of the Self. P 36. NY: HarperCollins Publishing, 1995.)

    Week 10-15

Within seconds following a cough from the mother, the fetus begins to move rapidly. (Karr-Morse, Robin, and Meredith S. Wiley. Ghosts from the Nursery. P 52. NY:Atlantic Monthly Press, 1997.)

    Week 11

Finger sucking begins, which helps to develop jaw and cheek muscles. (Ludington-Hoe, Susan, PhD, with Susan K. Golant, MA. How to Have a Smarter Baby. P. 16. NY:Bantam Books, 1985.)

    Week 12

By the end of the 12th week, the fetal will have fingernails. (Joy, Donald M., PhD. Bonding. P 90. TX:Word Books, 1985.)

Fetus is able to yawn. (Imrdkl, A Smiling Fetus is a Happy Fetus.)

Swallows amniotic fluid regularly. (Ludington-Hoe, Susan, PhD, with Susan K. Golant, MA. How to Have a Smarter Baby. P 16. NY:Bantam Books, 1985.)

The female system (if the fetus is to be female) begins to produce the ovarian hormones estrogen and progesterone. (Stump, Jane Barr, PhD. What’s the Difference? P 79. NY:William Morrow and Company, Inc., 1985.)

    Week 13

The fetal brain can discriminate environmental events and can learn and retain information about environmental stimuli. The heart rate of the fetus changes when sounds occur in the environment. (LeDoux, Joseph. Synaptic Self. P 92. NY:penguin Books, 2002.)

Auditory centers in the brainstem emerge. (Schwartz, Jeffrey M., MD, and Sharon Begley. The Mind & the Brain. P 124-125. NY: Regan Books, 2002.)

    Week 14

The process by which neurons differentiate to their specific functions begins at approximately 14 weeks of gestation and continues through the first year of life. (Karr-Morse, Robin, and Meredith S. Wiley. Ghosts from the Nursery. P 23. NY:Atlantic Monthly Press, 1997.)

Nope. The abortion pictures are certified by a ME & correlate to 3d/4d pictures of a fetus at that gestational age.

What IS misleading is how the pro-abortionists lie about basic biological facts.

This isn't a non-biased site, and the pictures are hardly accurate. The ones I have seen show an isolated image of the zef, without any hint of its environment. The woman is completely removed from the pictures.

 You have GOT to be kidding!!! Or is this another shining example how the pro-abortion dogma does not allow for biological fact?

Is the absence of the woman in the photos a biological fact? Does the pregnant woman have nothing to do with the development of the fetus?

Where would a woman be in a 3d/4d ultrasound picture of her unborn baby? Is this a serious question?

...Consider her to be the frame. :-D

Completely depends on the stage. I don't think the government should intervene if the fetus is a week old after conception, but I surely do think they should intervene if it's 8 months old after conception!

In the other part of the pictures, the model of a fetus is shown, sometimes between two fingers. It doesn't even have an umbilical cord. There is no hint of the pregnant woman in any of the pictures.

Maybe - just maybe...it is because EHD has those pictures in it's Prenatal Image Gallery Index? Ya think? And they are discussing the development of the unborn baby at various stages...so why would they have a picture of a pregnant woman?

And what do you mean no umbilical cord? Some 3d/4d pics focus on the hands, feet, heart, brain etc... You are making no sense.

I didn't say they should have a picture of a pregnant woman, but since the fetus IS uindoubtedly very much connected to the woman, she should be evident in pictures of the fetus.

The model of the fetus has no umbilical cord, obviously.

EHD claims it is bioethics neutral (kind of like Fox News says it is fair and balanced). If that were true, there would be no cute captions on the pictures, suich as this one:

    "I am pointing!"

Of course - why would it? It is a model....

OMG - and even if EHD makes no statement on abortion & states it is neutral on the issue - you think it is biased because it has cute captions on the 3d/4d pictures? What, you think they should HATE unborn babies?

The point of the caption - the 10 week old unborn baby IS pointing:

Is the fetus talking? Is it saying, "I am pointing!"?

Now you are being silly. Remember, this is educational material - they are obviously trying to show development and used a light-hearted approach.

Why are you so upset by this? Most people who are interested in fetal development can relate to the pictures because they are expecting, or just interested in their own development.

It seems that the pro-abortionists don't enjoy learning about fetal development. So sad.

That's why it would. To be biologically accurate, it should show a representation of the connection to the woman. The picture makes it appear to be totally independent.

If EHD claims be bioethics neutral, there should be no endearing captions portraying a talking fetus. It's the same principle as the deceptive pro-life photos that show born babies in anti-abortion propaganda.

An organization that portrays talking fetuses with no umbilical cords is not bioethics neutral.

    Admit it.

You are just upset that EHD not only provide models to show size & scale - they have an extensive gallery of 3d/4d pictures of the developing unborn baby at all stages....and the fact of these images shows up many of the pro-abortionist's lies - 'it's nothing but a blob of tissue - it's not human - there is no brain - etc'.

AND that YOUR sources were pure crap. Heh!

I really don't think that abortion is really political, but I will engage in this subject anyway. I find this to be an interesting subject to talk about.

I don't think abortion is wrong because of a few reasons.

The first being that if a woman was raped, she should NOT have to have a baby that she is going to hate (and maybe even abuse) because of what a very bad person did. You can kill a baby swiftly before it even is born and end it their, or you can let it be born into hate, abuse, and maybe even death.

Second of all, teenagers who make mistakes (we have to face the fact that this happens A LOT or we are never going to resolve this problem) should be able to abort so that they can continue a normal life and not have to struggle day to day and not get an education to help a baby that is likely to die, suffer, or be neglected barley get through the early stages of being an infant.

Third of all, the world is being over populated anyway, and we are destroying the planet. Why add on to the trouble? Those who abort not only spare the suffering of a child they don't want, but will help make the world a better place.

So no. There is nothing wrong with abortion. - Rae

I see .. Is that why you have no response to my posts to you from a developmental biology textbook ?

Its called transference - a denial defense mechanism of projecting your issues onto others.

When a source provides images that trivialize and devalue women, it isn't an unbiased source.

What source? Not EHD. Just because they post factual 3d/4d pictures of unborn babies, doesn't mean that they 'trivialize and devalue women'.

You are getting further & further out there, with your baseless accusations.
