Hello, I am here to share my opinion on the Canyons School District in Utah. I attend Albion Middle School in Cotton Wood Heights (Salt Lake City). Recently, I was taken out of the classroom for being bad. Yes, I admit I am not a good student. But I haven't been bad for a while, and we barely got back into school. Recently I was taken out of school (and put into online classes at home) because my mom doesn't want me to keep on getting in trouble. That's not my problem. My problem is that the people at this school never notice anything anyone else says, only what I do. For example, what recently happened was that I apparently made some sort of racial comment. Which I did, we were learning about 9/11, one of my Spanish school mates (who was also a known trouble maker) turned to my Arab (and Muslim) friend and said "How did it feel when your father died as one of the high-jackers?". I was also a Muslim, so I turned to my Spanish friend and said "Depends, how did it feel when yours got deported?". We laughed and it seemed like nothing. Later that day my mom got a call telling her I said some racial things. However my friend who instigated it got no such phone call, he was left unpunished and his parents were uninformed. My question to you (Canyons School District), if you ever read this thread, why would you punish one student and not the other? How do you decide whose racial comments are tolerable and whose aren't? Please post your comments and thoughts. Thank you.

Is this the only time there's been a racial exchange between the both of you?

If the events occured as you have related them, you were, indeed, treated unfairly. Your comment was no worse, and in fact, was not as bad as the comment in which someone was told their father was a hijacker.

Perhaps you were removed from school because you have a history of disruptive behavior.

I am not the slightest surprised by that story.

Public schools are notoriously over-sensitive to anything that could be considered "offensive". In my opinion, such schools have no right to suspend students that want to express their opinions, especially when done in a light-hearted joking way. Unfortunately academia, on all levels, seems to be a breeding ground of liberalism and "political correctness". Liberal people seem to be naturally attracted into the teaching profession, where they are coddled and taken care of by generous pension and benefits. Although grading all those papers is no doubt hard work, far too many teachers just "coast by" in their educational careers, one of the reasons why liberals are attracted to this occupation.

I appreciate that you at least told us that you were a "known trouble-maker".

But based on what you said in the post---it doesn't seem fair or necessary to give you a consequence on this--

I will say that people in authority aren't perfect...especially when dealing with a person who has a reputation for trouble. Sometimes mistakes are made.

Do try to stay out of trouble and do your best on the school work. You won't regret it.

basically because these days people are spineless and cant take any kind of a joke. thank the over reacting PC BS for that. im honestly surprised your friend didnt get in trouble, but also the teacher might not have heard his joke but only heard yours.

especially when you also say you are a bit of a trouble maker, alot goes into play. but it still basically comes down to people being whiney babies and cant take a joke.
