The ignore function is for people who have lost control of their emotions.

If someone says something not worth responding to, I will ignore them, and I need no vbulletin functionality to help me do that.

If a person doesn't like being ignored, they should probably just try to make a post that is worth reading.

This seems more like something that someone would worry about if they were just looking for a soapbox to stand on. People looking for real debate can find plenty of it here.

    excerpt;

Who decides if a post is worth reading? Just asking.

    Anyway~

If I answered every post directed at my comments I would be here for a hundred years responding. So I did not start this thread for personal concerns, well at least not yet! Ha ha~ However what I am concerned about is organized ignoring to control a thread. Lets say I wanted to control the threads about Palestine. I am a Christian Zionist (and proud of it) so the scenario may be valid (just kidding). To control a site or specific subjects in that site the first thing I do is to PM all my activist friends and have them join the site. Then I PM the CZ who are already PF members etc. Last I email all of them and give them the target member I want to them to ignore.

Suddenly there are ten or so members that ignore the Palestine apologist member. That effects the said victim also it effects the people surfing Google or the major search engines. It could lead to more organized attacks etc. So I would be all for making a rule that makes gang ignoring illegal.

Notice to Mods the site crashed again as I was editing this, of course the stupid 20 min time limit lapsed so here is the edited version. Please delete the unedited version or just leave the thing ......

I know that! I spend way too much time answering replies to my posts and threads. Actually, as I said, it's impossible for me to answer every post and PM in the three or four hours I spend on the site. I did not create this thread specifically for myself.

Indeed I feel that your behaviour in discussion contradicts debate, and therefore if people feel you need to be ignored then that should happen.

See above. The reason I created the thread is because of people like yourself ganging up on less able members.

Personally I have no intention of discussing matter related to Israel / palestine with you because in the past you have repeatedly contradicted debate. [/QUOTE]

Ha ha that is wonderful, I wish you would put that in writing. Read my lips. If I design a pro Israel thread or post correctly it does not matter if the Usual trolling suspects answer or not! The act of posting it satisfies the design. It comes up on Google and major search engines when the correct words are used etc.

In other words you lost the debate every time and you are a sore loser. BTW your (and the three or four usual suspect trolls) rebuttals were in reality trolling insults that were devoid of facts etc so I actually am relieved I do not have your prattle to answer. I invite you to put me on ignore permanently, it makes this a better site when your comments are eliminated, and it gives me more time to answer the serious members.

I will and do. I will continue to post the truth about Israel, firearms, science, religion, etc etc. If you can not compete in debate without insult or trolling, please, please, PLEASE, stay out of it! The absence of that type (insult/ trollish) typical creation comment is a asset to this forum! Again as I mentioned, I can not answer all the replies I receive anyway. I have noticed that you do not have that problem...enough said!

I would like to add. When I put someone on ignore I send the person a PM stating why he is on ignore and sometimes publicly. In my opinion not to do so is the mark of a coward. Why? He or she is afraid if they let the member know they are on ignore they are libel to be ignored. As I said cowardly in the extreme (not to notify the ignored member). I also in the PM tell the member how long or what he can do to get the Iggy off. As of now, no members are on ignore.

And that is the point of the ignore button. When a member is at the stage of banging their head off a brick wall much better to ignore than explode and abuse.

My very first ignoree was someone who got off with no personal input to six consecutive C&Ps from a pro-Zionist site. I have more to do in life than read on a forum the kind of racist/religious crap people copy from websites or the Bible to "prove" an opinion by quoting stuff which has to be believed before being believed and which I would not choose to read.

I'll be upfront here...I don't post on the religion forum..I have never even read it..but reva is on my ignore list, has been for a while...not because I am in a conspiracy against him, but because I get hacked off with people who use the Bible, in which they believe, to justify excesses and irrationalities in the world of today in political threads.

I don't care what other people believe...good luck to them if they can find some comfort and purpose in life with religion....but imo, anyone who claims to be a Christian but who uses selected quotes from the Bible to justify anything which results in deaths of innocents is no different to any of the Islamic fundamentalists the West rails against..and regardless of the religion, I'd as soon not have other peoples religious beliefs shoved down my throat either at my door in real life, or on a political thread where religion has no place.

That does make it difficult to see the point of a forum.

It's always important to expose drivel, superstition and hatred. Ignoring is a cop out. There is however a strong antipathy on the Right and the Left towards argument and the exploration of ideas.

I have to say that that all sounds rather pompous.

And that's coming from me, Heroclitus!

I have a responsibility to myself to not waste time and effort reading posts that neither make an argument nor bring facts to the table for discussion.

When a person has consistently posted garbage then I choose to not read what they post and place them on ignore.

When a person consistently starts threads that are little more than racist flame bait I also choose to place that person on ignore.

I choose not to respond to posts not worthy of response nor do I read threads unworthy of discussion (truthers, birthers, Obama is a Muslim, Romney is the anti-Christ).

If someone feels their posts are being "unjustly" ignored then perhaps they need to evaluate the content and intent of their posts.

Do you care about other people's religions? I don't...which is why I don't read the religion forum...and it ill becomes you to snip a small piece of a post and quote it out of context simply as an opportunity to sneer.

Simple solution if there was a member(s) who petitioned others from their groups to collectively ignore you.

Go to your friends, and have them always quote your replies. Your words get out. The ignoring group think posters will still read them, and, you will have the added benefit of knowing they are twitching to make replies, but can't given their own tactics of silenceing.

Win win. If in fact people/groups are this lame.
