It's not okay. But my point is, they were equally as misguided. I don't think of them like confederate soldiers, or Al Qaeda or any foreign foe.

I forgot which framer said this, but it essentially goes like 'let's educate them to the error of their ways' or something along those lines, and then to pardon them and move on.

One-six was the day the 2020 election was to be certified. ALL of the many scheme's leading up to 1/6 and up to the inauguration and, for that matter up to NOW began before the election even took place.
It's actually not funny it's sad. Your "easy chair" fantasy interpretations of law ... DO NOT COUNT.

You disagree with people that have made, stellar, carreers in the legal field, at the highest levels of National and State Government? Really?
Good one. Now that is funny, I don't care who you are.
And the world is flat, my Cadillac is paid for (actually it is paid for but a pickup) and the checks in the mail. I pay on line or auto pay; but you get the point.
You missed several high powered tasers and hand guns, baseball bats, rebar, knives ... many many deadly weapons.
Look that word up please. But, I know of no one that was prosecuted that wasn't part of the insurrection attack on OUR Capitol.
Your rambling, but, your opinions do matter ... to you. What makes "IT" true; was the ongoing conspiricy to overturn the 2020 Presidential election and consequently overthrow OUR Constitutional Government.
To you? "They were There was not an insurrection against the government"; "Otherwise, they were there was an insurrection against the Trump government. You would have to allege that Trump led an insurrection against his own government.
Bingo!!!! That IS what is being alleged, TRAITOR tRump tried to defraud the government of The United States and it's people, while holding the office of President of The United States. Which is what makes his crimeS, and those of his seditious cartel, so despicable.
OR, you have to argue, as IS being argued, that TRAITOR tRump attempted to use the Executive branch to wage war on These United States and All Americans.

I doubt any framer would say that with respect to TRAITOR tRump's multi-faceted attempt to overthrow The United States and it's Constitution, that he swore to protect and defend.

You can bet Texas will respond by removing Biden from the ticket as "a president who aids invaders at the southern border".

I don’t think some hippies pretending a few blocks had some independence is the same as trying to appoint the loser as the president

You're right, it didn't. My overarching point, is I don't think making the claim of an insurrection(which to me, has a more moral and political relevance, than that of a criminal one) does us, any favors. When it suffices to say they rioted, they attacked officers, they broke the law. They're punished all the same. The difference is that no one would disagree that they did those things, I don't think you disagree that they did those things.

But no one wants to claim that their actions attacked the seat of government, or the flag of the United States. No one wants to acknowledge such a nightmarish scenario and no one wants to live in that nightmarish scenario. I was pissed at 1/6/2020. I'm STILL pissed at 1/6/2020.

But I think the way to put it in the history books is to acknowledge it for what it was, and move on. Since 99-100% of people agree they are criminal riots, that is the easiest way to move forward. Hell, they could even charge Trump with inciting a riot and I wouldn't complain and they could get a conviction(despite Trump's words, I have since come to the conclusion that had there been no elliptic rally, there wouldn't have been a riot at the capital grounds. so his words aren't a valid defense. He enabled the events that would come to pass.)

To me, they are not enemies of the US. They are hopelessly misguided, but they are not enemy combatants. I reserve those words for those who threaten to maim, injure or kill Americans, and to disable or take over the Federal Government.

Would Trump's scheme amount to a take over? That depends on how you look at it. If there had been some way that legally would put the count in question and it turned out that Trump would win that scenario. To me, it's not a take over(if Gore had won the Florida recount, it wouldn't have been a take over.)

But I do not believe they acted with intent to harm the government. Their intent was indeed to protest Trump's losing the election, and they went from protest to criminal activity. But intent to harm? I don't see it, or i don't want to see it. The alternative, is a divided country. Hasn't Trump already done enough damage?

If it were just Jan 6 you may have a point but the “fake electors” scheme puts it into the insurrection category

I posted this in Pablo's thread. But the issue of whether Trump is eligible, besides the Constitutional qualifications in Article II is more of opinion. For this to be done legally, a group will have to bring a federal suit to prevent Trump from running. The main problem, which is not the arguments for or against such a suit, is that no judge will want to sit on this case at all. If the judge rules in favor of the plaintiff or in favor of the respondent, then that judge's career would be ruined no matter what. Furthermore, any effort legally will truly constitute in the overall public's eye that this is an effort to circumvent and be viewed as highly political, even if other Republicans bring this suit.

Trump is facing four indictments in four different jurisdictions. The Republican National Convention will be held in early August 2024. By that time, Trump would have faced at least two trials, maybe three. The NYC Business Fraud Case, the Federal Document's Case, and possibly the Federal January 6th case. The Atlanta case will probably be in September 2024. If Trump is found guilty in the Document's case and it is prior to the Republican National Convention, then the RNC will have a difficult decision to make, either allow Trump as a convicted criminal or remove him from consideration in the National Convention. By that time, it will be too late for Trump to run as an independent in 2024.

Trump is MASSIVELY unqualified for the role, it's harder to think of someone less suitable. But not because of Jan 6th, "peacefully and patriotically make your voices heard"

And the more it looks... a portion of those in the capital were feds that were instigators.

It also was over 1000 people sent to jail crying, saying they did for what Trump, which was false accusations. Just another example of MAGA patriotism hypocrisy.

I am now saying it was a coup d'etat, now that we have texts and video for evidence, and it was planned.

Didn’t tell them to do anything violent though. And everyone outside did nothing wrong. Trump never told anyone to enter the capital or commit violence.

But Dems defended people at CHAZ. Trump didn’t defend anyone who committed violence.

Trump invited them there, trump riled them up, told them he was going to the capital with them, then did nothing for hours, then when it was winding down, he told them to go home, he loved them and now talks of pardoning them

What he’s doing is fleecing his sheep. Being excluded from politics would dry up the most reliable source of income TRAITOR tRump has ever known.
