There are a lot of things we can do to save money ... compromises on drinking water quality - not one of them. Ever.

    It wasn't ISIS.

    Excerpt:

Kelso thought it was sewage, but it was actually iron. The Flint River is highly corrosive: 19 times more so than the Lake Huron supply, according to researchers from Virginia Tech.

According to a class-action lawsuit, the state Department of Environmental Quality wasn't treating the Flint River water with an anti-corrosive agent, in violation of federal law. Therefore, the water was eroding the iron water mains, turning water brown.

But what residents couldn't see was far worse. About half of the service lines to homes in Flint are made of lead and because the water wasn't properly treated, lead began leaching into the water supply, in addition to the iron.

This had been the status quo for nearly two years, and until September, city and state officials told worried residents that everything was fine. Former Flint Mayor Dayne Walling even drank it on local TV to make the point.

    

The city is now issuing bottled water to Flint residents.

But in August, a group of skeptical researchers from Virginia Tech came up and did in-home testing and found elevated levels of lead in the drinking water and made those findings public. State officials insisted their own research was more accurate.

So you wouldn't mind drinking water with lead in it for two years?

Then we'll drink clean water with our tax dollars and you can drink lead ladened water and we'll spend
your tax dollars on a new aircraft carrier as you have stated that defense cuts are more of
a concern to you than clean water and we can't spend none on everything ...

Maybe not what you meant, but it's pretty much the impression you gave. Might
want to think out your responses.

I think quite a few people got their feelings hurt with my statement. Also dodging the overall point. If you want to whine about saving money, whine from all angles and not just one.

I suppose I should start a thread titled "ISIS POISONS ENTIRE AMERICAN RIVER" and the point out that no, this was Obama's Federal EPA.

No. We can live without drinking water for about three days.
We can live without another aircraft carrier for ... years? Decades? Maybe our kid's kid's lifetime.
There's just no comparison. Even if you are militarily defeated - you still might live for years.

No water to drink? Game over.

Everyone can relax. The state of Michigan has already taken responsibility for it and have been trying to take care of this for a few months since the summer time. This is old news in Michigan. And before any of you get all republican vs democrat. Rick Snyder is one of the most popular governors in the state of Michigan history and our state has rebounded more in the last 8 years than the previous 16 combined. Including Detroit. He had taken responsibility for not acting fast enough. Michigan is on it.

Who is running the EPA? Because they polluted the entire West's water supply with heavy metals. Where is the outrage?

Genesee County? Isn't that where they have a statue to a girl in the story of Calico Captive?

I read the article and watched the video and never once did it say that republicans poisoned people to save money.

and with lead in the water, what happens to their children, this may effect those people for years to come

    - - - Updated - - -

it was obviously a mistake, they tried to save money and in the end it will cost them much much more, it will also cost the rest of the country as they will require federal help cleaning it up

The OP says that republicans poisoned water to save money. I didn't see that in the article or in the video.

it appears they did do that, just not on purpose

maybe someone told them they needed to add the anti-corrosive and they felt the water with their hands and said it's not corrosive, that is bunk science, see, I can even drink it, many on the right do seem to be anti-science

There are a lot of poisoned people from this - both from the acceptance of heavy metals and the bio contamination.

Then, it appears the very existence of these problems was denied when they were trivially easy to detect.

There are a few people who really need to go down for that.

Let me reiterate for a third time. Nowhere in the story does it say that republicans poisoned water to save money.

It doesn't say they did it on purpose, nor does it say they did it by accident. I doesn't say they did it at all.

What I am getting at here, it this whole thread is another one of those lies made up out of whole cloth to unjustly disparage the reputation of the GOP.

Agreed with the right wing direction of ignoring science.

However, I don't see there being any excuse for having Flint families drink water that they clearly did not bother to monitor.

I just was making a point which I will make now for a forth time. Nowhere in the article nor on the video
is the claim of the OP validated. Nowhere do they say that republicans poisoned water to save money.

agree, I saw a video of the water, and based on the color alone I think it would of warranted more testing
