Democrats today say that DACA people should not have to pay for the sins of their parents.

Yet these same democrats are trying to hold white people responsible for the sins of their forefathers 155 years ago.

Anyone here want to try and explain this??

I don't get a lot of the rhetoric around race in this country. What does it mean to "hold white people responsible for slavery?"

The mental gymnastics to support left wing ideologues is astounding.

Anthony Johnson wasn't a white man.

    He wasn't even a Mulatto.

But he went to the courts and argued that slavery should be legal in Colonial America and became the first legal slave owner in America.

@APACHERAT What does that have to do with the question I'm asking?

I'm trying to understand the frame being put forward here. What does it mean to "hold white people responsible for slavery?"

Muslims and Sub Saharan Africans are responsible for America's slavery in the past and slavery today.

I don't know if you don't understand my question or are just trying to avoid it.

What is the OP talking about here: "Yet these same democrats are trying to hold white people responsible for the sins of their forefathers 155 years ago."

Reparations and other forms of accommodations for slavery and Jim Crow. At least that is what I think he means.

Maybe that's what he's talking about, but it doesn't make any sense. Supporting reparations, like I do, doesn't mean holding white people (of which I am one) responsible for slavery.

Pretty sure the majority of white Americans ancestors hadn't arrived in America by 1864.

2/3 of all white Americans in 1864 lived north of the Mason Dixon Line.

The Op is just trying to find a way to bring up the subject of reparations (cause he thinks he can score political points that way). That's called playing the race card

Yeah, and even most white Americans in the early-mid 19th Century didn't own slaves.

The **** is your point? You're still not answering my question.

You say that yet I bet many would perceive it as such. If we were to pay reparations are we not paying for the sins of other men from the past?

Maybe you don't know what reparations means?

    1. the making of amends for a wrong one has done, by paying money to or otherwise helping those who have been wronged.

Maybe, and I'm saying they're wrong.

No, we would be paying to uplift a community oppressed for centuries. Hopefully, more than one community, as African-Americans aren't the only people oppressed by American political culture, just the most egregious example.

And who is "we?" I make decent money, and I think my taxes should probably go up a little bit. I'm white. My boss is an Arab who makes something on the order of a dozen times more than I do. His taxes should go up considerably, in part to pay for programs like reparations. Likewise, wealthy black rappers should have some of their wealth confiscated to pay for programs such as reparations.

Yeah, it's cast as a national sin to be atoned for.

Which, it is. I don't think even most conservatives would disagree with that.

I just don't understand why people are talking about "White people being held responsible for slavery."

What is the OP talking about here: "Yet these same democrats are trying to hold white people responsible for the sins of their forefathers 155 years ago."

"We" are the American tax payers. If it is as you say not "holding white people responsible" then why call it reparations? After all the definition is "the making of amends for a wrong one has done, by paying money to or otherwise helping those who have been wronged." That seems a little different then paying for a program to uplift people.

Now if on the other hand we want to institute more programs to help the disenfranchised no matter their ethnicity then I am all for it as long as we have proper mechanisms to pay for it. But we should be able to call things what they are. If on the other hands we want Americans to pay for slavery then so be it, sugar coating it helps no one and in fact lessens the significance of the program.

Well, that's not true at all. Islamic elites dominated most of West Africa when the Europeans came sailing down the coast.
