If the Palestinians want to continue fighting it out, then Israel has the right to remove them.

Rape is not an acceptable tactic. Hostage taking of civilians violates the Geneva Convention. Parking military assets with civilians does the same.

If you resort to savagery, savagery will be returned on you.

More of the same. People on the left criticize Israeli policies and others accuse them of being anti-Semitic for it instead of addressing the actual arguments and facing some ugly truths.

There are no "actual arguments" since the Palestinians abandoned Oslo. The Oslo offer was a great act of Israeli generosity. Every drop of blood spilled on all sides since Oslo is to the Palestinians' account.

If it makes you feel good, go ahead. It doesn't matter to me because I know what I think and I know that I do not consider Israelis Nazis. But if you want to find some little morsel indicating otherwise then knock yourself out. It's your problem.

Eh, that sounds a little simplistic. But my main concern is that people are willing to debate these matters intelligently and try to find solutions rather than get defensive and attack the other side.

It isn't acceptable to you and me but it might be to them. It's their war to wage it how they see fit.
The Geneva Convention swings no weight any longer. It's dead in the water so you can stop quoting it.
    Again, it is completely irrelevant.
The Palestinians are inflicting savagery in return as we speak.

If they use that tactic, they should then understand that no one is going to sympathize with them. If they embrace savagery, I will cheer their being savaged.

No, its not. The rest of us hold to it.

The Palestinians sued for peace immediately. They don't want any of this smoke. They're currently having their cheeks spread.

It looks like a happy family outing to me. She's smiling for Christ's sake happy as a lark. She's even got her favourite blanket to keep her legs warm. She's no "hostage". They are taking her to a safe house where she can play Majong with senior Jewish and Muslim women. They're probably even awarding prizes to the winners. C'mon, Esther! :clapping:

Do you know what war is? I know but I don't think you do.
    Who cares what you think?
Bull shyt. Who are these people who "hold to it"? The Americans at Irak? At Abu Graib? At Guantanamo? At the UN that didn't lock up a single American politician for all of that? Wake up. Open your eyes. Take a deep breath. The Geneva Convention is a relic and so is the U.N.

Nice post, and I agree with a lot of what you said here, but I am not as pessimistic about the Ukrainians and impressed with the Russians and their military as you appear to be. I'm also old enough to remember how things panned out for the Soviets in Afghanistan, and history very well could repeat itself in Ukraine provided that the latter continues to receive the support it needs.

The question before Americans, and other Western people/nations are going to have to answer this for themselves, is will we continue this support and on what conditions? We are $33.5 trillion in debt (not counting another $195.5 trillion in unfunded liabilities) and our current spending is absolutely unsustainable. In light of this and the kaleidoscope of problems our nation faces, it is reasonable of Americans to ask themselves if and why we should continue to extend this support. Is Ukraine going to pay us back? What do we get out of this, and what (if anything) do we stand to gain from our investment? There is also the thorny question surrounding America's role in a post-Cold War world. If these questions don't get answered satisfactorily to Americans on the Left, Right and Center, the Ukrainians risk losing our support, regardless of whether or not they are willing to continue fighting and dying for their people, country and posterity.

As for the current war unfolding in the Middle East, I remember thinking when the Palestinians elected Hamas to govern Gaza that things would eventually end very badly, especially for themselves. It wasn't difficult to predict that the Israelis would respond to the election of a jihadist outfit dedicated to the destruction of Israel by electing hardline governments of their own, and with this the chances of peace and co-existence became more remote and the prospects for war more likely. Now, the inevitable outcome of all this has finally arrived and the butcher's bill will be paid.

You've got some ugly truths to face yourself.

This is from the thread discussing Rashinda Tlaib's refusal to condemn the beheading of Jewish babies in Israel:

As awful as Tlaib and her failure to denounce the butchering of Israeli children are, people and incidents like this are useful in their instructiveness:

WATCH: Jake Tapper suddenly discovers antisemitism on the left
    [IMG]
    https://twitchy.com/aaronwalker/202...y-discovers-antisemitism-on-the-left-n2388391

What's interesting and revealing here is that the LW MSM has been aware of the anti-Semitism on its side of the aisle for a very long time (decades), but it has chosen to conceal it from the public instead of exposing and condemning it. They have also known, and concealed, that these same anti-Semites are not only anti-Israeli, they tend to be virulently anti-American, as well. Another thing that's worth mentioning here is that this anti-Semitism is coming from the "progressive" wing of the Left and Democratic Party, so this has not been "a real eye-opening period" for "progressives". They're aware of it, and either they have participated in it or they've tolerated it.

So here we are, and the reason the people in the LW MSM are suddenly wringing their hands is because "progressive" anti-Semitism has metastasized to the point where Jake Tapper & Co. can't hide it anymore, and thus it has finally, after all these years, become a personal and political liability (and hence a problem) for them, Democrats and the Left in general.

The questions before us now are 1) Is the Left truly concerned about this and 2) if so, what is it going to do about it?

Albeit belatedly, Jake Tapper deserves credit for taking the first step - acknowledging it and talking about - and that inspires some cautious optimism. But on the other hand you have the Rashid Tlaib's, the Jew-hating "activists" and protesters we've seen over the past week, and the moral and intellectual gimps who support and make excuses for them, which doesn't inspire any optimism.

Who will prevail? Time will tell, but the events of the past week and the weeks to come are going to be very instructive.

    ------------

Which side are you on, Durnadal? The one that wants to confront this problem on the Left or the one that wants to keep dismissing it?

So if taking hostages and raping women and beheading children gives them "might" then it makes them "right"? OK. I got it. :boo:

Historic shot: Jewish refugees arrive in Palestine.

I'm never for dismissing a problem, and I never want to see anyone condone or attempt to justify such violence and cruelty. I'm just reading her Rashida Tlaib's statement for the first time and yeah, her stated position is in poor taste to say the least.

"I grieve the Palestinian and Israeli lives lost yesterday, today, and every day. I am determined as ever to fight for a just future where everyone can live in peace, without fear and with true freedom, equal rights, and human dignity. The path to that future must include lifting the blockade, ending the occupation, and dismantling the apartheid system that creates the suffocating, dehumanizing conditions that can lead to resistance. The failure to recognize the violent reality of living under siege, occupation, and apartheid makes no one safer. No person, no child anywhere should have to suffer or live in fear of violence. We cannot ignore the humanity in each other. As long as our country provides billions in unconditional funding to support the apartheid government, this heartbreaking cycle of violence will continue."

She seems to feel that Israel's "apartheid" policies have caused, perhaps even justified the violence used by Hamas, which she seems to characterize simply as "resistance." She should clarify that.

There has been a lot of violence from both sides, as it happens. Over a thousand Palestinians have reportedly been killed so far in Israel's response to Hamas. Innocent people are dying because Israel chooses to bomb their homes and other buildings in order to strike Hamas, and apparently they have stopped giving warnings prior to striking now as well. I feel that this is a response that the US military would not make under similar circumstances. I worry that we overlook some excessively brutal and deadly tactics on Israel's part in order to continue to stand by them and support them.

Both sides of this conflict need to change and neither side wants to. Each just gets more hardened and bitter, and the violence escalates accordingly. This in part is what Rashida Tlaib has chosen to address, but again, she has failed to condemn this act of savagery committed against innocent Israelis and opted instead to blame Israeli policies. Not a good look for her at all and a stance I certainly do not share.

    That's right.
So why didn't you do it?
You just proved yourself wrong and proved me right. Why do you people do this time and time again? You make accusations that are false and then you try to prove you are right by quoting my own words that prove you wrong. I knew it was going this way as soon as you accused me. I could sense it.
