Jamie Foxx - "I kill all the white people in the movie. How great is that?".

I've got to be honest here, I sense that this was more than a comedy routine, and that there is no way in hell it'd be acceptable for a white comedian to say the same things. It's not just the comment "I kill all the white people in the movie. How great is that?", but the entire dialogue where he basically revels in his blackness, and all things black. How is this acceptable, when it'd not be so for a white comedian?

was there an uneasy atmosphere when he talked about all this blackness? Did white people feel threatened? No to both. Which shows that it's okay to identify with your race, it's okay to speak about them and us, it's okay to feel pride in whatever group you feel you belong to. so now, stop the double standard.

 

I watched this Saturday night. This is the kind of racism that nobody bats an eye at in Hollywood. In fact, the crowd cheered him on when he said that. Now reverse the colors and imagine that scenario for a second. Is this what a colorblind society is supposed to look like?

I am tired of seeing revenge peddled as social justice. It's dishonest and all it does is breed more resentment and racial turbulence. Martin Luther King is rolling over in his grave right now. His dream was for blacks and whites to live together peacefully and respectfully in harmony. Not for blacks to "get back at" whites.

 

As soon as I saw he was the host of SNL I changed the channel.

On the other hand, there does seem to be a societal need for blatant racism that is socially acceptable. This fits the bill.

 

It should be acceptable for ALL or acceptable for none.... anything less of that is pure racism

 

That's exactly what it is, it's revenge, and it's acceptable. I feel really bad for young white males who's future will be filled with attacks and blatant racism directed at them.

Is it racist for a jew in a holocaust movie to say "I kill all the nazi's, how great is that?", or for a guy playing a space marine to say "I kill all the aliens, how great is that?"?

 

Am I the only one who sees this rant and thinks "intentional self-parody"? That the joke is actually "This is how 'black culture' has become and that's funny because it's sad"?

 

One of the reasons I spend so much time in this forum, with my tv service in a dumpster, is precisely just that: I despise the whole industry of establishment, all their comedies with pre recorded laughter, and everything else they create. there are very few good movies and shows that I like, but 99.99999% of it all is such garbage that it's not worth paying money for it - I get it on youtube if I need. I never was a fan of fox news or jamie fox - theyre all the same scum.

African Americans will have their vengeance. White people had better accept the right of African Americans to take reparations for past injustice. There's a new sheriff in town and he ain't gonna take any (*)(*)(*)(*) from crackers.

Since the Nazis HAVE killed enormous numbers of the Jews, its not funny. Since the Confederates HAVE killed enormous numbers of blacks, its not funny.

Since the blacks did NOT kill their masters wholesale, it can be funny.

 

A better example would be a white actor/comedian starring in a movie where he goes through the hood, killing all the gangsters, then later hosting SNL and saying, "I get to kill all the black people. How great is that?"

 

I wouldn't call it revenge it doesn't even come close to it (he is not actually trampling any rights of white people) but there definitely is a double standard on what is and isn't acceptable in terms of jokes, criticisms, etc. White comics can and certainly do joke about it, but the crowd would have cringed instead of laughing easily.

 

Humor is a magical force. It can get away will all sorts of things. And believe it or not, racial humor, is some of the funniest, for the shear fact it deals with sterotypes.

 

That aside, reverse the roles in this example, how well do you think it'd be received?

 

What do you mean? As in people's races, or the jokes?

I'm going to assume you mean both at the same time. Then it would have been just as funny. Obviously some like the Obama being elected jokes, would have to be edited to still be funny. It would still be funny to some extent, but that's really more of a 2008-09 joke. But otherwise it would be a nice sketch.

Could just ask instead of assume. I tell racist jokes all the time. For instance, my chemistry teacher was born in South Korea. In our current unit, he was talking about his college days playing frisbee with a 200 g frisbee (We were discussing photons and how it works on a glow in the dark frisbee). Apparently he would throw it up in the air, and they had to catch it. So I whisper to my partner "Fun fact, he was originally cacausian before he started playing catch the frisbee."

Racial jokes are hilarious, no matter who tells them.

Ummm, no, it's not funny as a matter of fact. If you're a fifteen year old white male who had absolutely nothing to do with crimes of the past, it's not funny at all.
