The key word there being historical, not present day. How long are present day people going to cling to outdated grievances to justify their own racism? You either want to get past it or you don't. No one alive today in the United States has ever been or owned a slave. If you insist on identifying with something that has never personally affected you, you're just making excuses to perpetuate it. You are part of the problem and not part of the solution.
