If you’re a historian talking about history, your intent will show.
If you treat that name like a loophole, your intent will show.

To change the name would not accurately give the name. And “negro” is not a terrible term. The United Negro College Fund still exists, that I know of, and there has been no attempt in Spanish to substitute some other word for the color black.

The question is a strawman argument.
Nobody has suggested that “Negro Leagues” is racist. The question is a projection of white-conservative paranoia.

It is borderline - as it has been for sure a historic term, I would for not using it loosely.
And please spare me with the cancel culture argument. On one hand, nobody wants to change history. On the other hand, we can expect, that people are at least trying to show more empathy to a group of people which have been discriminated against for 200 years.

That was it’s proper name at the time. I don’t care if you change it, but on a historical level you run the risk of negating what they did. You erase it’s history .

No. That was the true name of the Leagues. Nothing racist in using it if it’s a proper name.

Perhaps though, in these days of cancel culture, we should force the change of name of these racist terms to more acceptable ones; maybe negro leagues becomes African American baseball organizations (leagues being an archaic white supremacy word.).
