I reported this several days ago in this Forum section .
However , when I tell Russians that a huge part of their ground success in Georgia was due to the Vostock Brigade , it is scorned .That remarkable fighting force was composed of Chechen mercenaries , many of whom had originally fought against Russia .
The amazing thing about the matter is that this notional Russian force was actually under the direct command of Ramzan Kadyrov whom , for a variety of reasons , had not paid them for several months .
Without this circumstance , the mercenaries would probably have refused to fight the Georgians and , to a lesser extent , the south Ossetians .
That would have changed the invasion dramatically as the conscripts attacking through the Roki Pass and into south Ossetia performed abysmally .
