I think it was more the hate for Obama, hate for Hillary was an extension of a phenomenon I noticed starting around the election cycle in 2008.
When Obama was running in 2008, I was watching Fox, CNN, and other channels, along with some social media. I noticed a significant increase in the level of anger and outrage brought on by the large increase in demonizing of the opponents. Not that it never happened before that, but it kicked into overdrive pushed by Glenn Beck, Rush Limbaugh, Ann Coulter and others. Hillary (I don't like her) came along, the DNC wanted to be the first to elect a woman president, and so she unfairly was nominated. The already pent up outrage for Obama was transferred to Hillary. Not to say she didn't cause some on her own, because she did, but the level of attacks had been elevated long before she ran.
Just an observation from my perspective................

 

Yeah, the election of Obama triggered fear in a lot of Americans, once elected, and that fear was exploited for every drop.
