Are they the "wrong places" because they contradict your position? Stereotypes exist for a reason. There are exceptions to anything, but you can typically get a good idea of who someone is by the way they dress. Are you going to pick up one of these hitch hikers....? Or this hitch hiker? People judge people all the time about how they dress, right or wrong, that is how it is.
Really old bean, projecting your ignorance onto the y-man is a futile exercise. And here is yet another reason for PF to adopt a "no PWI" rule. Not at all. It just has no effect on me when it's so clearly founded on a fraudulent sense of intellectual superiority.
What position, one where a person, male or female should not be judged simply on the way they happen to dress. Yes stereotypes do, to cater for those who can't think for themselves. Neither, I don't pick up hitch hikers at all. but which would you pick up out of these Mot in the same way they judge a woman who happens to be wearing a mini skirt.
The only ignorance here is what you post. Of course that would then suit your means and methods Translated - You didn't get the sarcasm and now want to postulate to hide the lack of understanding.
but it happens... and despite your objections to it happening, or why, and how it shouldn't.... it does happen. So, teaching your daughters the consequences of dressing provacatively is still important. But I promise... the day that rape no longer happens, I'll be happy to let my daughters parade around in anything they want. the day that noone loses a job opportunity because they wore bluejeans to the interview, I will quit harping on my kids to dress up for interviews.... the day thugs quit wearing baggy clothes showing their boxers, I'll let my kids wear it....
People are judged on the way they dress. Like it or not, that is how it is. Not really. It would just mean I wouldn't have to put up with responses which are devoid of any connection to reality. Hey, if that's how things look in your fantasy world, I suppose the best you can do, given your inclinations, is to enjoy the view. <shrug>
I'm not disputing that it does happen, all I am saying is that it only enforces the view when displayed publicly like this thread .. a young male reading this will make the assumption its ok because older people seem to think it is. Once you daughters reach 18 what they wear is not longer you decision to make.
you'd know all about being devoid of any connection to reality, the rest of us not so much, and if you don't want to put up with responses that, in your opinion, are like that .. you know the answer .. leave. Hey, if all you can do is to berate others to vindicate your fantasy world then I suppose the best you can do, given your inclinations, is to wallow in your own stupidity.
Just for fun, did you decide which of the people you would give a ride to? Number 1 is a convicted double murderess Number 2 is a world renowned violinist Number 3 is a solider convicted of executing/murdering a wounded Iraqi funny how looks can be deceiving don't you think
but on the flip side... it also shows young females that there are no consequences to dressing too provacatively.... There shouldn't be... but rapes still happen
If you call women sluts, don't be surprised when you are are treated like a misanthrope, or called a bigot, even if you really aren't.
Of course there is you can run and hide .. happy trails - - - Updated - - - more likely a game of chance.
I'm not one to enforce stereotyping by repeated displays of misconceptions. BTW you do know that the majority of rapes are committed by people known to the victim, less than 9% of rapes are committed by strangers. Myth - Women who are sexually assaulted 'ask for it' by the way they dress or act. Reports show that there is a great diversity in the way targeted women act or dress. Rapists choose women based on their vulnerability not their physical appearance.
Pot meet kettle. A good demonstration of your complete ignorance of my actual view and a great demonstration of the subjectivity of perspective.
Right there is where I disagree with most. First I will state that yours is the majority view in society in my experience. But just because it is the popular view does not make it an unbiased view. Perception is subjective. Many who dress in a socially acceptable way are anything but good people... for example Bernie Madoff shows that looks can be deceiving. I personally know more than one clean cut God fearing Christian who espouses the virtues of Christianity while secretly browsing porn behind the back of their spouse. Wounder how their reputation would be effected if I let their little secret out of the bag? So when people start judging me for having long hair, or my wife for not wearing a bra... it makes me want to be a fly on the wall and see what skeletons they are hiding in the closet. We live in a society where appearances are everything. Its better to appear to be good than to actually be good. Makes me sick to my stomach.
Many serial killers fit the pic of the clean cut guy. Case in point that just because someone looks respectable does not mean that they are. Stereotypes are a catchall and are fine until you are stereotyped for something. Everyone can be stereotyped. I know people who see a guy in a suit and tie and make all sorts of far out assumptions. Bias is bias and a lousy way to view others IMO.
Seems like you say that a lot. I can only go by what you post; and if anything I said about your view is false, you have failed to say what and why. If by this you mean it shows how emotionally invested you are in your own parochial view, I do not disagree.
Indeed... but I keep mine to myself. I do my best to give those I meet the benefit of a doubt rather than just close my mind due to a snap decision based on looks alone. Someone could look at me with my long hair and Metallica tee-shirt and think "he looks like a convict or a druggie"... both assumptions would be wrong and as it turns out (in real life at least) I am a nice guy who has never been to prison (except as a volunteer to council addicts) and has not done drugs since the 80's.
