You can go back to at least 1964, Goldwater born in the Arizona Territory before it became a state was challenged. But the suit dropped when it became apparent he was going to lose by a landslide. Up till now, this election has Trump front and centered. Who his opponent is means little. Quite a lot of folks are just plain sick and tied of Trump's childish antics. So far policy, what Trump has done or hasn't done as president has taken a backseat to his very distasteful and unpresidential personality.

I'm keeping a very close watch on how independents perceive Trump. The Republican Party is still the smaller of the two major parties, if Trump and company lose the independent vote, they lose the election. Right now 24% like Trump 47% dislike him. Today 26% of independents like Biden, 31% dislike him. Back in 2016 the numbers on election day were 57% of independents disliking Trump, 70% disliking Clinton. an 13 point advantage for Trump in the dislike column. Today Biden has that advantage 16 points worth. That a swing of 29 points from 2016

Now it's early, these numbers will change. But they note a very steep uphill climb for Trump. Why is the dislike numbers important, history shows people usually don't vote for someone they dislike. I'd keep a very close eye on independents. Biden can afford a split or even lose the independent vote by 3 or 4 points and still win. Trump must win them or else he's gone. The Biden/Harris ticket has the luxury of being the candidates of the larger party.

No, I just don't think policy and results as you put it isn't front and centered with a lot of independent voters. What is is the Trump they see calling others names, throwing temper tantrums, behaving as a spoiled four year old brat instead of a president. For many independents the presidential election is nothing more than a beauty contests, a contest of likes and dislikes between the candidates. You seen this in the 2018 midterms, where despite what Republicans were spouting as a great economy, they took a whipping. The results was for independents, let's voice our dislike of Trump as a person, an individual, a president who doesn't act like one.

Can Trump overcome his schoolyard bullying persona and win these independents back. I doubt it. But we'll see. Trump is a very easy man to dislike. Policy and results might not mean much compared to his childish behavior and antics. We'll see.

Your browser must be more advanced than mine. When I search the 14th Amendment for "natural born citizen" or "natural-born citizen", I come up with 0 results. Why not search the 14th Amendment and post the results you get so I can message Mozilla that their browser is broken.

 

Your assumption that the phrase represents some third form of citizenship has been rejected by the courts. The Constitution says there are two ways to become a citizen, not three. By birth or naturalization. That's it. She is a citizen by natural birth.
