Wow! Here we go again with left wing politicians getting into the business of saying who can and cannot run a business in their towns. We all remember Chicago city councilmen saying Chick-Fil-A can't operate in their town, now LA councilmen say a private citizen can't buy a newspaper company.

The best part of the story is that a bunch of the so-called "journalists" say that if the Koch brothers buy the LA Times, they will quit....lol!

So where is the downside to this transaction exactly?

In left wing California, you either tow the line as a hardcore leftist or be prepared to be silenced by elected officials.

I say why hide it. Let the DNC buy them and at least be honest about the objections.

Why not just let these newspapers bankrupt themselves? Obviously, California needs more layoffs.

I hope the Koch Brothers sue the councilmen, but the newspaper and all the socialist so-called "journalists" quit. Nothing would show the low information voters a better example of just how deep the knee pads are sewn into the knees of left wing "journalists" and how sucked in their cheeks really are.

I mean already, you got left wing councilmen and supposed "neutral journalists" screaming about this. What more can you say? They are all in to keep their left win rag, far left wing.

Lulz....and a consortium of presumptuous progressive politicians using extortion to block a perfectly legal private sector transaction is NOT POLITICAL.....

They're absolutely insane....dangerously so. Strap up.

Liberals would freak out if the LA Times was not total left wing propaganda.

Ironic. With the consolidation of the media into a few hands, the "opposing" view points get shoved into the back corners.

A higher bid would block the sale, seems like the easiest path...

Amusing that a bunch of liberal drones threaten to quit when they most likely will be fired anyway. Such wailing and gnashing of teeth is amusing.

Leftists think they can decide how much is "enough". I wonder if George Sorros owns enough, as well?

So you'd support blocking Warren Buffet from buying anything else. How about George Soros? They both have enough, right?

Well, yeah. But I really don't think that the trend toward nearly everything that is substantially influential to the formation of mass opinion being owned (as well as philosophically controlled) by a scant few Left and Right wing politically partisan and very zealous billionaires is all that conducive to an informed and free-thinking public.

Translation: Only a liberal should be allowed to buy the LA Times.

The Progressive High Priest caste is protecting its turf. Only they can sacrifice and read the entrails.

In a democracy, the power is held by those who think up the debate questions. The Left does not want to risk giving up their franchise of controlling society by picking the issues.

Considering that California is a very liberal place I would imagine that the majority of their news is slanted(although I could be wrong and will end up eating my words in just a minute). One paper out of many news outlet isn't going to suddenly prevent people from seeing both sides.

Yes....progressive ABC / CBS / NBC's 25 million household, slave to broadcast "news" market share will be irreparably harmed..."shoved into the back corners", as it were.... because of the Koch Brothers' massive, consolidating acquisition of media dinosaur, the LA Times.

L.A. Times is dying. The shareholders should be begging for this buyout. Everyone quit subscribing to the paper around the time of Gray Davis when it was revealed how corrupt and left wing bias the paper really is.

Not at all. Whoever has the bucks can buy whatever... I was merely lamenting the fact that so much power and ideological influence, whether Liberal or Conservative, is just a matter of who has the money to buy it. Media moguls and political bosses are shaping people's beliefs in a manner that I personally think is above and beyond.
