I got a kick out of this NPR headline. The U.S. Has More Guns, But Russia Has More Murders It's as if the folks at NPR are scratching their heads trying to figure out how Russia could have more murders with all of the armed Tea Partiers in the US. Sometimes NPR can't help showing their ignorance.
It is all about those tiny nuances of the statistics. As far as i know, we have both attempts to kill and actual number of murders counted into murders group.
According to the Russian official stats about 9700 people were killed by homicide and about 6500 people lost their lives as a result of intentional infliction of a grave injury in 2012. However according to the report of the Research Institute of academy of the Prosecutor Generals Office of the Russian Federation the real number of crimes may be a few times more than the registered ones. There are some methods to whitewash the stats and not long ago former Russian president Dmitry Medvedev said that the official stats about criminal situation in the North Caucasian Federal district is a bullship- window dressing.
