Trump has gone completely socialist over Corona Virus. A trillion dollar bailout, sending thousand dollar bribes to every American so they'll look the other way while hundreds of billions of welfare goes to billionaires.

Pittance checks for the masses so we turn our heads the other way and don't notice the billions in corporate welfare.

Trump's trying to offset the losses that this scientific theorem to slow down the virus has caused. The problem is, is the theorem sounds right on paper but in real life in the way it's playing out, it's not going so swimmingly.

    Buzzword Salad.

The entire situation can be reduced to a single number:

RO (transmission rate) >1 Epidemic builds
    RO <1 Epidemic burns out.

Once the virus infects someone it has until the person dies or recovers to infect at least one other person. If it cannot do that, more times than not, the virus burns out.

This is why we are socially distancing, to beat the virus. It's hard to make a living while socially distancing. This money removes the incentive to mask the illness and continue working in order to provide for your family.

He didnt have to help out working people. He could have just sent the money to the top and ignored our people like Obama did as people lost homes from the criminal bankers that Obama refused to prosecute .

So your partisan spin failed imo.

There's the alternative where we let the Epidemic build to its peak, before it naturally dies out on its own. I'm for that approach, while recognizing yes it will cause more death and more cases. The argument against this, has been hospital overload. But this is why I think self-home care is best for this moment.

Since there is no cure, no one should be going to the hospital anyway. All cases should be treated at homes with certified professionals(think: A coronavirus task force of doctors across the country.) This way we can get the best of both worlds: Treat them while they're ill, no hospital overuse and continue to actually have a functioning economy.

Trump needs to be the head of the Executive Branch.

But then he would have some responsibility. So he avoids that.

with this kinda virus, it's most likely gonna infect everyone, the only thing they can do is spread out the curve to prevent overloading the medical system

as everyone builds up an immunity, then this strain of the virus will die out

if we had a vaccine, we would not have to go through all that - even the anti-vaxers would be safer as those that got the vaccine would slow the spread

People go to the hospital to get life saving treatment, not a cure. A mobile task force of doctors, nurses, and/or PAs won't fix the problem of too few ventilators, IV drips, etc. It also would mean that the too few of each of those professions are out treating single individuals rather than groups of them at a time. Not social distancing, while simultaneously spreading our health care resources thin, sounds like a terrible idea.

That's what we did with Small Pox and Polio and they never "died out on their own", they killed, ravish and disfigured for centuries until we invented vaccines.

So no, we will not follow your approach. We have police power through our State Governors though we are well enough educated and have the innate good sense that I doubt resorting to that will be necessary.

Europe depopulated for 3 centuries after global trade unintentionally unleashed international disease transmission. So yeah, rather than all that death, we'll maintain social distancing for a month!

And when it doesn't work....then what? The evidence is showing that it's not working, and if it needs to be kicked in our society's face repeatedly, then I guess that's what it's going to have to take.

What is your evidence that it's not working, exactly? Are hospitals overwhelmed to the point that people are dying in the halls and waiting rooms? Because that's what we're trying to avoid, here.

I thought we were also trying to 'flatten the curve', which isn't happening. And if we're destroying an entire economy to keep hospitals from being overran, our priorities are ****ed up. People are going to die, but others will live. Unfortunately, they won't live with much with a new 1928 economy.

How do you know we aren't flattening the curve? That's the evidence I was asking for. Not doing so means we'd be seeing the scenario I mentioned in my previous post.

And I don't agree that prioritizing health and lives over money is "****ed up." I doubt that folks who are dying or losing their parents or partners right now think the economy would be worth the sacrifice. Would you be willing to kill yourself or a loved one to keep the economy moving? An economy can recover. A corpse can't.

I don't think I have to kill myself or a loved one(or anyone for that matter) to keep an economy moving. All I'd have to do is be President and say "Screw it, this plan isn't working. Let's resume businesses, and for those infected and affected by maladies, stay at home."

Really? Do people with six-figure incomes need a thousand dollars? Cash awards without regard to whether or not they need it, or whether or not they're getting unemployment? The handout has nothing to do with care for the recipients and only to distract from the much larger corporate handout to corporations, often foreign corporations. You'll struggle to find someone who has defended Trump more than I but this time, he's wrong. Not just a little bit wrong but very, very wrong. If it weren't for the alternatives, I'd vote against him in November just for the point.

One more time: where is your evidence that this isn't working to flatten the curve?

What evidence is showing what's not working? There is no vaccine; how can it be not working.

Because if it were working, we would indeed see this reduction play itself out. That's not happening now, is it? Precisely because there is no vaccine, this is a dumb idea. It cannot logically accomplish its stated goals: To keep the cases to a minimum(or a constant) so as not to override the hospitals.

The easier solution, the simpler solution would be to exclude those people to begin with and continue to move on with our economy. Given the trillions of dollars in 'stimulus', here's the real next great crisis: We could head for hyper inflation territory. And then you'll be complaining about that.

I understand we as a society are clinging to it because it came from the doctors/mathematicians and its mathematically sound. But it's not socially applicable, hence it has zero chance of working.

there has to be literally millions infected to be so widespread.
If you think you can make a measurable difference with a virus that spreads exponentially, with millions already infected, you are dreaming.
What government is doing to the workers and businesses of this country is inexcusable and vain theatrics.
When the virus burns out on its own, we will be left in tatters.
The morons in government should be concentrating on increasing supply lines and availability of equipment, not sticking a knife into the hearts of our businesses and workers.
That's what happens when you let a bunch of moron public health majors who could barely pass general chemistry for public health majors call the shots.

When this thing is over and we're left to deal with a 1928 economic crisis, those of us who were(albeit in the minority) against this plan can co-author a book that says "How not to purposefully spiral the world into a great depression."

I think they are covering for the Great Depression that started building in the early to mid 90's, when we opened the money spigot of debt, and started offshoring our manufacturing base.

    I agree.

One thing that bothers me is out of the US 263 completed cases - 41% recovered 59% died. Clearly the early rounds are going to the virus, not the US health system.

    https://www.worldometers.info/coronavirus/country/us/

I fully expect our folks to get better with practice but were sure getting our asses kicked at moment.

that is not what reducing the curve does, about the same number will be infected, just over a longer period of time

the economy was gonna crash with or without corona, this just sped it up, the market bubble was set to burst at any time
