Let's be clear on one thing about Trump's assassination attempt...

.... It was a despicable act. It wasn't an attack against just a candidate, but against our Democracy. It's comparable to January 6 in that one individual attempted to decide who would be President in contrast to allowing the will of the people to make the decision.

Anybody, from ANY party trying to minimize the gravity is an enemy of democracy. Pure and simple.

I like that you kept this almost entirely bipartisan. Can’t agree that Jan 6th was a serious attempt at anything. This kid accomplished more than the hundreds maybe thousands did on Jan 6th. Had even a fraction of those people been serious about overthrowing govt, there would have been hundreds of casualties, both sides.

Jan 6th is and remains a Republican riot as mindless as mobs always are.

This kid had full premeditation, planning and intent.

The victims of January 6 lost more than part of an ear. However, this is not a competition. BOTH cases where attempts to overthrow our democracy. Fortunately they failed. When we learn all the facts we'll have to figure out how to prevent them from having better luck next time

 

Comparable to 1/6? Not even close. An actual armed attack against a presidential candidate is orders of magnitude more several. AND most of the devices, e.g. gas, grenades, rubber bullets were fired by the government forces.

Pop quiz: there was more than just an ear lost in the attempted assassination. What else did the shooter shoot?

 

I think an armed attack against both houses of Congress that contributed (at a minimum) to the death of five people would certainly compare. Some might say it would exceed it, but I don't want to minimize the gravity of the attempt against Trump. It was despicable. And even though we don't know at this point if the motive was political, the ramifications would have been.
