Trump's biggest advantage is that he has a working brain: “Jobs report was an anemic 210,000 jobs added despite 573,000 expected. It’s almost as if firing people for not taking the vaccine isn’t a great way to improve the labor scenario. On the bright side, the White House says gas is down two cents!”

 

It's definitely not uncommon for politicians to lie, but obviously some lie more than others, and the ones who lie about the most critical issues (like the death of hundreds of thousands of Americans) are less qualified to be holding the office responsible for fixing that issue. We don't simply accept any and all lies because other politicians lie.. but more importantly if a politician can't even acknowledge a particular problem is prevalent, then they are clearly unfit to fix that particular problem.

"TDS" is a thought-terminating cliché, a right wing trope designed to kill the debate, kill conversation, and, once implanted into the brains of Trumps followers, reduces the followers capacity to think for themselves, which, of course, is the entire purpose of a TTC in the first place. Trumps and his minions have been very good at TTCs. I wouldn't doubt that many a right wing brain is nothing more than a bucket of thought-terminating clichés, though, some, I suppose, are thinking people.

They hear criticism, and BOING! --- up springs a thought-terminating cliché of one kind or another.

That's all it is, the rationale which appears to make it an argument is nothing more than a rationalization for the propaganda method, which is to to say it is just a ruse for what really is happening --- Trump doesn't want his subjects to think, so he fills their brains with thought-terminating clichés, such as 'TDS' 'leftism is communism" 'all dem policies are communism', 'Fake news" "Enemy of the people" "NeverTrumper" "Pocahontas" and on and on. etc.

Note that projection is very much a propaganda method, accusing democrats of propaganda while republicans relish in it. That's cute.

This idea that clamping down on an existential threat is authoritarianism, my gawd, I'd hate to see anyone who thinks like that go to a place where there is a real authoritarianism, such as a place they persecute people for being gay, or if someone is dissing the president then feeding them plutonium, or the gov chops someone up to pieces and run the pieces in a grinder if they criticize the regime.

For a law to be 'authoritarian' is has to be anti-social, socially unjust.

What in holy hell is anti-social about preventing an destabilization of the economy and existential threat to the health of a nation?

The "Unclean" the "Unvaxed" are not a threat - of any significance. This "threat" is based on lies - false narrative - and propaganda. - and on this basis these people are being persecuted by the system

How does the above not meet your "socially unjust bar" - I contend that it defines injustice - and fully meets your definition of authoritarianism.. Nail on the Head in fact.

Note this would not be the case if the claims about these "Unclean" folks were true .. but that is not the case .. it is a hyperbolic false narrative .. of a most disgusting kind.

Good-appointed three pretty much reliable conservatives to the Supreme Court. Got all three confirmed by Congress.
Good-appointed many more pretty much reliable conservatives to the Supreme Court.
Good-attempted to do something about illegal immigration.
Good-increased defense spending, not enough but a good early effort.
Good-tried to do something about China's unfair trade practices.

Bad- just about everything else, too numerous to go into.

 

Imagine if he had put that kind of effort into competent, thoughtful governance.

 

He could have been a good president, IF he had just worked for all AmeriCANs, not just the radicals that he calls his base and not pitted American against American. IF he would have done his job, (and been half honest about it) instead of worrying about keeping his job, IF, he'd done that he would have won reelection by a landslide.
