They aren't. America doesn't have hate speech laws. So it shouldn't be difficult finding Evangelical Christians calling for earthly punishments - including execution - of homosexuals, especially the pastors/Christian activists mentioned in the article.
KAMPALA, Uganda — Uganda’s sharp reduction of its AIDS rate has long been hailed as a Cinderella success story, inspiring a wave of aid programs and public health strategies to fight the disease across the developing world. But as Secretary of State Hillary Rodham Clinton arrived here on Thursday, the news on AIDS in Uganda was not so bright: A new American-financed survey says that Uganda is one of only two African countries, along with Chad, where AIDS rates are on the rise. http://guardianlv.com/2013/12/uganda-gays-face-life-sentence-for-being-gay/ Maybe the Ugandans are thinking about the seriousness of contracting AIDS, they wish to curve the trend, but the law passed I think is too cruel.
You understand HIV/AIDS is not a gay disease right? You know that the devastation in Africa is in the heterosexual community right? NO?
The OP is not anti Christian. It is anti terrorism. It is anti human rights violations. I'm not a Christian and I do not know much about the bible, but I do know a few things. I know that there are passages about love and acceptance. I know that there is something in there about "do unto others..." I know it says something about hating the sin and loving the sinner and you do not lock up or execute those that you love. Furthermore, I know that there is a lot of room for interpretation as evidenced by the numerous Christian churches that do not buy into the homophobia and who accept and support gays. Some Christians have a funny way of walking in Christ's footsteps, the Christ who never said a word about homosexuality, by the way. It is the Christians themselves who are behind this who are anti Christian, who are betraying the values and the love of their Christ.
then read Leviticus................. nope, we are living His Word, unlike the naysayers who don't belief in God. Those who don't believe often make up their own rules as they go along, usually based on convenience. Unstructured at best.
Leviticus is about Jewish identity .. the laws and ritual keeping the Hebrews separate from the others. That was written during and after the Babylonia exile.. Deuteronomy was written even later. - - - Updated - - - If there are four witnesses they lash them..
Right from the mouth of Jesus "Verily I say unto you, as long as it is only the "gays' who suffer, it is not a problem"
Exactly- now if Uganda can only bring back true Christianity by executing adulterers, blasphemers and children who disrespect their parents.......
I am against authoritarianism and totalitarianism in any country- and that includes many Muslim countries- far more than Christian countries. So are we in agreement that the new law in Uganda should be condemned- and we should condemn similar laws in any other country including Muslim ones?
We are in agreement that this law should be condemned. My view is living together, homosexuality, and having children out of wedlock----are all harmful to society when that is the normal state of that society. But the decline into depravity is from people turning away from God---not a lack of laws.
In what ways?? All of these things are, or are becoming "normal" in this country. How are we being harmed
Um, you do realize that gays are getting life in prison, right? How is fighting that equal to being anti-Christian? Basically, you're saying that a Christian country such as Uganda should be allowed to persecute gays, and anyone who stops them is an anti-Christian bigot? Where do you find this logic?
I've never heard of killing children for disrespecting their parents in the Christian world, nor any other religion. Not our role to execute adulterers, blasphemers. Murderers, yes. Where did you get your information from?
This would all be solved IF the Jews in Israel were to just give in to the Palestinians. I wonder if the so called War Crimes Tribunal will find Uganda guilty of genocide.
I fully agree with you. It's when a society has turned away from God that sexual license pops up, as well as many other things. I also believe that a society away from the binding power of God's Love causes calamitys, not only through the adverse and destructive influences which gears people towards anarchy, wars, and all sorts of barbarism, but also natural calamities, which people had wrongly attributed to God, rather than to their own distancing from God, such as weather extremes, earthquakes, etc.
Great. My view is that I need not judge consenting adults for what they do between themselves. I think that living together has no real impact upon society, but having children out of wedlock does- which is one of the reasons why I support same gender marriage.
Judging right and wrong, logical and unlogical, good and bad are all important things. I'm sure you do that all the time, and that you vote for or against laws based on that judgement. Arresting people for bad living is not the same as endorsing an arrangement considered important for that society. For instance---brothers and sisters can not get married...but they can live together without fear of persecution. People can live in an orgie group but society doesn't have to endorse it as "good" and "equal". Even when children are involved.
