I'm fine with not deporting illegals whose only crime is being here without the right paperwork. But I have no problem with deporting those who have committed crimes here.

I think if an American goes to another country and drives drunk, or commits any other crime, they are liable for that crime. Are you saying that Americans should drive drunk worldwide and not be deported from whatever country they are in?

I really don't know what you mean by this: "So anyone who was ever convicted of DUI would never be able to travel outside America again. Ever."

What in the world are you talking about?

It is about denying entry to people who have been convicted of DUI. So a Brit who was convicted, 20 years ago, of DUI in Britain, would be denied entry to USA. If they were coming on holiday. Or for a business trip. That’s the way I read the OP.

If every country in the world passed the same law, any American convicted of DUI would be unable to travel.

Could you source that the bill addresses foreign nationals who commit DUI in their home countries?

Here is the copy of the bill I found...
...and it doesn't say anything about people who were convicted of DUI in foreign countries.

    It’s from your OP:

A majority of House Democrats opposed legislation this week aimed at denying admission or deporting foreign nationals who have been convicted of or admitted to specific crimes, including Social Security fraud and driving under the influence.

And I showed you the actual bill. Foreign nationals who commit DUI in this country.

Not that I would care if foreign drunkards were banned, but it's ridiculous for you to to try to make that up. I'm really trying to understand why you don't think deportation is appropriate for an illegal convicted of DUI. What is so special about them that we have to keep them in this country?

They want them to get absentee ballots, not vote. That is left to the ballot harvesters.

Again, yeah? So? There are already countries that have the same law on the books. Canada for example. I would not be surprised in the least if other countries have similar laws already.

Why stop an important bill over a minor redundancy?

With republicans passing pointless laws to ban things that are already illegal? Why would they be?

Perhaps they are worried this law would make deportion enforceable...even in New York City.

I'll tell ya what, I lived in El Paso for 2 years and for the last 10 years I've lived just 35 miles north of it and I'm here to say that if drunk driving was an Olympic sport, the Latinx people would be gold medal winners year after year. It's really pretty bad. I'm not saying this to come down on them because many of them are fine people, I'm saying this because it's true.

Well perhaps ICE will do it when New York City informs them that they have immigrants that beat up cops or committed some other crime in jail waiting for them. Perhaps a federal law will help make that happen.

What you are ignoring is that just because they "can be", doesn't mean that they are. The law makes it to where they have to be. IE: Its a requirement, non-optional. No longer subject to the whims of politics.
