In a different thread I posted the world stats on murder and crime rates in non-warzone countries and Islamic countries had the lowest rates. The usual suspects replied saying that these countries lie. Then those same people post topics such as this one showing a very public execution. Do not these people understand what they post?

Well, if you guys are such advocates of harsh penalties, then why is Europe against the death penalty?

Well.. I lived in the Saudi Arabia for many years and always felt very safe.

At the core of Islam is the desire for a "civil society"..

Yeah, it doesn't get much more civil than public executions and religious police.

There are about 3400 religious police in the whole kingdom..

They are banned in Jubail and Yanbu.. rare in the Eastern province and Jeddah.. Mostly in Riyahd and considered pest by all Saudis.

Mostly what the do is roam around saying go to mosque and cut your hair.

I had a team of abt 20-30 Filipino workers - and I constantly reminded them of the do's and don't and they were there to provide for their families back home. I'm glad to say , at the end of the contract none got into another trouble , except me when I was involved in a traffic accident and was promptly carted off to Traffic gaol - after a few hours my sponsor came to the rescue - perhaps with a Monopoly " Get out of Jail Free card" - hehehe - He paid for repairs.

Filipino workers were all better behaved - by not driving. or getting into any mischief. :)

So would you like to have that sort of thing here?

More importantly, if they're considered such pests, why do they tolerate them?

No.. why should the US have religious police?

Let me say that in 20 years I never encountered any mutaween.. nor did anyone I know.

Periodically the SAG rounds them up for "retraining".. most are uneducated.

A couple of months ago during the international book fair in Jeddah the religious police showed up to complain about the books..

They were thrown out on their ears.

Sometime its better to put up with the devil you know than the devile you dont. The religious police has in recent yrs proved to be a valuable source of information in the Kingdoms own battles against terrorism + Ultra-extremist elements.

Well, the guy in questioon did it for 6,000 Saudi Arabian riyals. And most African religions besides Islam or Christianity, involve sorcery.

So are the public executions part of their activities, or is that more of a state-sanctioned thing?

Fair enough, but it still sounds rather primitive and oppressive.

Oh, I'm sure it's just part of Islam's love and tolerance.

What? The religious police have NOTHING to do with the courts.

You have to be CONVICTED of a capital offense.

    Where are you coming from?

I'm just asking, since there appears to be some ambiguity about the video showing something done by authorities or being done by common folk.

That is fairly typical of propaganda sites.

Its done by the authorities after conviction in court.

Hmmm thats about 1 for every 7,700 residents. Our FBI has one agent for every 21,500 residents.

Alright, that clears things up then. We can establish now that the state of Saudi Arabia executes people for certain religious practices and for relatively minor acts of stealing.

Do you think murder, home invasion, swindling, rape, pedophelia are RELIGIOUS practices?

We must be on a different wave length.. I thought they were CRIMINAL practices.

It seems to work quite well for the vast majority of Saudis . Why should it bother us. ?

To each his own , I'd say.

Not sure of your point. The Mutaween is a small portion of Saudi Arabias entire law enforcement structure.

    LOLOL..

They are the ONLY ones who deal with these issues.

Haven't you ever been to Saudi Arabia?

Only three times losers convicted of grand larceny are subject to amputation.. but the ignorant are convinced otherwise.

I was referring to sorcery in general.

    Thanks for the strawman though.
