Prime Minister David Cameron is credited with pushing for marriage equality. While speaking to his own Conservative Party in a speech in 2011, Cameron explained, "Yes, it's about equality. But it's also about something else: commitment. Conservatives believe in the ties that bind us; that society's stronger when we make vows to each other and we support each other. So I don't support gay marriage in spite of being a conservative, I support gay marriage because I am a conservative."

I'm glad that my country is moving forward on this. We don't have the contingent of religious fundamentalists that the US has so most people who are against same sex marriage are quite open that the reason for that is they simply don't like gays.

I have a lot of gay friends and acquaintances. I think this will make them happy. More to the point it will mean that future generations of gay kids will grow up with no knowledge of being anything less than fully enfranchised citizens.

    A good day indeed.

I've got nothing against it, but its purpose is to make the class-war Conservatives look 'progressive', a decline into American life-style politics. We'll doubtless keep it when the UK breaks up, but I hope we'll get back to arguing about things that affect more people.

Marriage Equality would have involved marriage for any two consenting adults who desire marriage. Not just "gay marriage".

Is he still babbling on about that, even though he's been proven wrong? Seriously?

What have you proven wrong? That when David Cameron says "gay marriage" twice in one sentence he really doesnt mean gay marriage? When did you do that? Im not familiar with British Marriage Law but I suspect he uses the term "gay marriage" because the presumption of a sexual relationship and the prohibition of closely related couples marrying remains in the law so marriage is only being extended to "Gay" couples, as opposed to any two people who wish to marry.

Well, if it is, its still Prime Minister David Cameron strawman, not mine

Make an argument. Complete sentences are helpful. Explain why when the Prime Minister says "gay marriage" he doesnt mean "gay marriage". Usually those of you here who state your advocacy for "gay marriage", when challenged claim you dont mean just gay marriage and only use the term because we are in the PF Gay rights forum. The Prime Minister isnt in the forum so you will need some other silly excuse.

All your arguments have been refuted. You simply like to parrot them over and over again. All you warrant at this point is simple reminders of your failed arguments, strawmen, and pathetic equivocation.

I for one, see no need to keep repeating the same responses to things that have been repeatedly proven false.

Very proud of my great nation for leading the way in marriage-gender equality. Gender discrimination is wrong.

I don't understand how things work over there politically. Why is Scotland not also on board? Are they separate from England and Wales?

So why doesnt the Prime Minister support same sex marriage instead of only "gay marriage". If Gender is the issue. Or, like the US, do they allege that the only purpose for limiting marriage to the opposite sex, is in order to exclude gays?

Different law - and the UK is in process of separating anyway, though all too slowly. In my country we tend to prefer serious politics, though we've always been pretty tolerant about behaviour and are all for tolerant laws.

The Homophobic World is collapsing....outside of maybe the Taliban or Saudi Arabia.

So I guess the anti-gay bigots better pack their bags for Riyadh or Kabul if they want someplace "safe from the gays". :)

History. There are parliaments in Northern Ireland, Cymru ('Wales') and Northern Ireland, though not yet in Kernow, and the people voting for them are all for greater powers. Our original plan was that the Westminster Parliament would cede powers to Europe and democratic assemblies at the same time, so that the UK would just disappear peacefully. The present ranters' nonsense against the EU may make it more difficult, but the bully state is finished in the long run whatever.

So is England ready for a male Queen? Can a surrogate mother become a Princess?

dixon, in a couple of years when the West has legalized same-sex marriage....maybe you can escape to Afghanistan or Saudi Arabia where it'll still be illegal???

Don't be ridiculous. A gay king would have a prince consort, not a queen.

    - - - Updated - - -

Sexuality isn't a withholding factor - two straight men can marry.
