I do believe these are mostly Muslim countries. FGM is found in Bahrain, Iraqi Kurdistan, Jordan, Palestine, Oman, Yemen, Qatar, and many predominately Muslim African countries.

yes but regardless of religion. As I said it is a pre islam practice not an Islamic practice. Hence you will find in these areas Christians will also engage in FGM. FGM has been illegal in Egypt since 2007/8 but apparently this has had little impact.

I am well aware of the situation in Somalia as was the woman who I spoke of but she like myself was also well aware that FGM has nothing to do with Islam and as I said, her mother was told that in no uncertain terms which is the reason it did not happen to her. Somalia has the highest incidence of FGM in the world.

Many African girls are beginning to fight back against it. This is a cultural issue and one on which people, as with the mother I mentioned need educating. Obviously this is easier when people are in a country such as the UK where people are educated and it is not part of the larger social fabric than in countries where they have been doing it for thousands of years. However it can be done. I think it is the Israeli Bedouin who used to practice this and now with education have completely stopped.

I am not going to go through your list of countries which are just a tiny section of those in the world and I am not going to check them all. I did however look at Pakistan as it is not within the area where this practice stems from and discovered that this is not usual and where it happens tends to be from people with an Arab-African descent - Africa seems to be the place where the custom primarily hailed from.

FGM was carried out in the States till somewhere around the 1960's to white American women of European descent.
