The purpose of wearing masks is to prevent the wearer from infecting others. The VP is tested every day. He knows he will not infect others, so there is no practical reason for him to wear a mask. That said, he should wear one anyway to keep from alarming the low information folks.

When was he tested prior to the hospital visit? ...--at the hospital? He could be tested and found "clean" at 10:00 AM, meet with WH staff at 10:10 and pick up the virus from an infected staffer, then meet with the doctors or anyone else at 10:30 and give them the virus he picked up from the staffer! You lax attitude is inappropriate.
They weren't alarmed... you are. Anyone who didn't know that the VP is tested every day is low information. That said, he should have worn a mask to keep from alarming them. He should have worn a mask to comply with the rules. He should have worn a mask to avoid the media panic-du-jure. But, there was no practical reason for him to have done so.

So you really think that if they were at all concerned they should have handed him a mask and asked him to put it on??? That would make them more stupid and inappropriate than either Pence or Trump, and that isn't possible given their level of professionalism and training.
I do not allow people in my place of business without a mask and I have a no-touch thermometer to make sure employees have a cool head! He would not be allowed in my office. Medical professionals allowed it.
