I'm pretty sure an independent body sets their pay.

Yeah, an 'independent' body whose members are appointed by the government.

What's that got to do with my insinuation that the independent body may not be very independent?

The PM will get a $90,000 raise, taking her to $470,000.

The new Speaker will get a $70,000 raise, taking him to $315,000.

Junior parliamentarians get a $40,000 raise, to $180,000.

I see no reason to complain.

I wouldn't do any of those jobs for a cent less.

We need to pay them less to attract better people to become politicians.

No, we need to pay them more in order to attract talented candidates.

You know what you get when you pay peanuts?

I really don't think they are in it for the money.

It's good pay. of course, but for a (*)(*)(*)(*)ty and difficult job. I'm not going to complain about this one.

Isn't the point though that they are removing perks like gold passes on airlines etc.

Sounds like a good idea to know what they are REALLY paid. Then we can whinge about whether it is too much or not.

They are very poorly paid, we need to pay them more while they`re in office, and nothing after they retire.

Hey wouldnt it be good if workers also tied their wages and rate increases to the money supply growth.

Instead of the CPI/Inflation growth that governments have bestowed upon us.

I bet Julia and Co. dont follow the CPI/Inflation index when it comes to their increases.

If you think their system is better, run for a seat in parliament.

    There's nothing stopping you.

Hey uncle if all our wages were tied to the money supply growth we would never need to strike to get a rise, actually we would never lose from inflation.

Makes you wonder why they pulled the CPI-inflation index out of their arses, cause they know that it will never keep pace with inflation.

As for becoming a member of parliament i cant tak sh!t or push lies very well so i dont think i could do the job.

Anyway no matter how good the individual intentions maybe once he gets in the system the road map is already drawn out for him/her.

This is one of the points that short sighted unionists fail to grasp. Unionism doesn`t raise living standards, it only causes competition between workers while devaluing the currency, the parasite unions are the only winners.

Please don`t tell mummy button girl I said that, or this will be deleted.

You can thank your lucky stars that your wages/salary and conditions were in place when you started work.

If it wasn't for unions you might not have any of these.

Dont believe me, go have a look at what corporations are doing in the third world.

They used to do that in the western world once upon a time until the people revolted created unions and spoke as one mouth piece.

Ofcourse corruption can infiltrate any organisation, unions are no exception.

How do you think Unions involved in Good Faith Bargaining and Collective (Enterprise) Agreements are causing "competition between workers"?
