This is kind of deep for the state of Missississippi. If this was just a joke it was definitely in poor taste, not really sure what the outcome of this investigation should be.

I guess you would have to go to the school and find out what kind of culture is there or if there have been any other incidents like this.

If they have a 'general high school' for all the behavioral problems...

... have them transferred and let `em graduate from there...

... keep us appraised of the situation.

He should be able to point out the kids who did it. I agree, if it was a joke then it was a seriously sick one. Point em out and bring them forth.

The story is still a little sketchy, but our local news is saying that 1 kid involved has been kicked off the football team.

Well yes, they do in college.

I saw the subject line, and my first thought was, "That is horrib..." and then I saw the word student, and I started to think better than even odds that it's a hoax. There are tons of racial hoaxes, mostly at college campuses, every year. Many of them have been posted here. So these days I wait and see if the story holds together more than a week or so.

I put a noose around a kids neck in high school at football camp...

He wasn't black, so obviously, there was no federal probe. Cause that was a harmless prank but this... this is blatant outright racism that we need a federal investigation to prove.

Amazing how quickly a narrative can change based on skin color.

I don't recall seeing any moose in Mississippi, why would someone want to put a moose on a black student?

So placing a noose around a football players neck is racist and deserving of a federal probe while groups of feral black "teens" attacking people and officers is the new typical.

    Wonderful

Or the punks who hung nooses on the tree where the White H.S. kids hung out on the school yard at break and lunch.

Turned out, it was the black kids who did the deed just to blame the innocent White kids.

Is there any particular reason why a noose should only offend blacks when people of all shapes and sizes were lynched with them?

As for football, this noose thing is nothing and I mean nothing. I still have hip problems due to it being dislocated in HS football when I was put in the bull ring.

You mind posting that story, not that I don't believe you.

This thread has gone exactly the way I knew it would and I knew which poster would say what. It is pretty much par for the course.

Only an idiot couldn't see what is wrong with this picture.

In all fairness we don't even have those responsible arrested or questioned yet. If it was anyone in the school then the kid should be able to point them out and then we can lay blame.

not to sound insensitive but what do we need federal people to come in for? this seems rather open and shut... you arrest the students who participated for felony battery since they used a weapon (the noose), and you expel them from the school since they no doubt violated countless rules since this is a felony by all accounts, and we find out how the local district attorney will act... will the district attorney do what happens with almost every felony battery that comes before him and plead it down to a misdemeanor battery if they take a guilty plea, time served, community service, a small fine, and a couple years of probation.... or will he take a stand and keep the felony battery and likely put them before a judge who might go soft and stay the sentence, and we end up in the same place we did with the misdemeanor... or will society demand not only do they get charged and convicted of the felony battery, but spend a year or two in juvenile detention and then a couple years probation...

either way, why do we need the federal people to come in? seems to me there are enough local laws and ways to deal with, its just a matter of how do you want to proceed?

certainly the parents will file a lawsuit against the school district rather than target the parents because you go for the guy with the deepest pockets when you do...
