Nope... Remember BP was kicked out of Iran and Iraq in the early 1970s and Khadafi Nationalized Esso Libya in 1972. The oil companies seek 'concessions'.. They extract the oil and share revenue with the country. They don't OWN any oil anywhere.. Oil companies HATE a war zone.. that's why they seek good relations with the people and the leadership.
And when faced with a choice of paying a price they can't maintain, or won't, possibly because of the cough recession? Because of the cough, economic crisis? In the U.S and Eurozone. We've got huge military commitments, huge demand for oil collectively, if we don't get it in a deal that suits us, if say Gaddafi planned on raising oil prices to generate revenue for his nation, he's suddenly doing something which would give the West cause for military action, not because he's actually doing anything wrong, but because it's not in the best interests of the Western Powers in their agendas which are to be able to hold on to the power they have achieved through over 60 years of imperialist aggression and military supremacy.
Libya is a member of OPEC. OPEC sets its 14 crude basket price below US domestic and NON OPEC producers. The US can't extract oil in a war zone.. Look at Iraq.
Clearly it's not just about oil, Gas has its value too, oh I'm looking all right. http://www.reuters.com/article/2011/08/29/us-iraq-gas-exclusive-idUSTRE77S1TO20110829
Yeah.. they use a certain amount of gas injection to keep the pressure up.. Its called good reserve mgmt. What gas they don't use is not theirs.. Iraq is just going to sell this gas to Europe via the five oil companies involved.. "Oil giants including Royal Dutch Shell (RDSa.L), BP (BP.L), U.S.-based Exxon (XOM.N), China's CNPC, and Italy's Eni (ENI.MI) signed technical service contracts to develop three oilfields in southern Iraq in 2009-2010. But the oil deals to develop the Zubair, Rumaila and West Qurna 1 fields near Basra oblige the big oil contractors to surrender the gas they do not use for reinjection or power generation to Iraq's state-run South Gas Co (SGC)." Its a good article.... The oil companies make money on this.. They used to just flare off what wasn't used in gas injection.
