Seems the Israelis are buying a new embassy building.

    Guess where!!

    It's called the 5th Settlement:omg:

They are having to move away from Giza and Downtown where all the other embassies are located out into the desert in a place called 5th Settlement.

Seems those dam n Israelis are moving into settlements here now in Egypt!

The good thing though is they will be away from town. Hopefully no more problems. They will no doubt build their citadel with it's big electric fence around it out of sight of every day Egyptians.

    Great location. Great idea.
They will feel more at home with an address saying 5th Settlement.

Going to be big problem though for visitors to it as it's not easily accessible and a hassle if you dont drive to get there.

You know as well as I do Abu that the 5th settlement is just the name for a section of the city up the road from Kattameya. Lots and lots of schools there as well as housing compounds- it is on the road to AUC and New Cairo

I know the area well. I have a couple of close Scottish friends and others not so close, one a manager who worked for Global Santa Fe Transocean who live in Qattameya Heights near Mirage and Golf and the JW. Lots of oil workers rent out there and use British Cairo School and AUC.

Hell of a place to get to if you dont have a car though.

Was there something about my post which was wrong?

Do you agree it's a better place to put that embassy away from downtown and without easy access for anyone wanting to protest? They are not going to drive an hour or more depending on traffic in their cars to go out into 5th Settlement.

You are correct about the distance. But why did you have to politicize the term settlement? There are enough problems with this Palestinian/Israel problem without adding fuel to the fire.

Do we have to add the term 'settlement' to the list of words now considered anti semitic ?

Use of the word settlement is not addng fuel to the fire.
It is the word MOST used by all concerned in the last God knows how long regarding the problem.

    Look at it another way.

They could have chosen many places equally distant to Downtown BUT THEY chose one called 'Settlement'. That word is already heavily politicized. It's been on the tongues of all concerned long before I mention it.

Maybe that was for a reason.

Maybe in the same way that someone would call their dog by the name of a neighbour they didn't like here. To provoke a reaction.

Of all the places they could have chosen, they chose 'settlement' knowing that word would be on all documents in the address.
