Yeah, why do you think Naked News is based in Canada? :p

How did Homer put Canada - ah yes. "I know we don't call as often as our goody two shoes brother Canada, who by the way has never had a girlfriend (know what I mean?)".

Really nice country, I wish the US was more like it.

Heh, never knew. I haven't seen that in forever. Always figured it was European. Guess that explains the lack of European accents!

I hear you, the curse of the nice guy is the girls go elsewhere.

Hmm. Wonder if they make video games up there. Probably going to have to move when I graduate anyway, and probably best to get out of here before we goto hell. Then again should we go completely nuts, Canada won't be safe. I definitely don't think I can stay in Oregon, at least not Portland. Rent is hell and if I could buy a house I'd likely be paying the same.

That's the plan. If I can't get in with Intel I'm going to try for WA (was in Seattle for 2 years, kinda have an idea what's going on up there). Worst case Austin TX is apparently a video game mecca, so I may end up there. Hopefully I won't have to sell my soul to EA, but it seems like that might end up being what happens.

I would suggest California but for obvious reasons that would be inappropriate.

Whatever you do, don't sell out to Activision. Bobby Kotick is the American Scott.

Heh, Cali, the place that steals our water/power. No idea why water costs so much if we're selling it to them.

Anyway haven't heard bad about Activision, what are they doing that is so bad? I heard EA was so bad programmers wives protested because their husbands were having to sleep in the office to wrap up code before release, and apparently this became (maybe still is) a regular thing. If I could I'd love to work on a company making military simulators for civilians (like Rise of Flight, DCS A-10c, etc) but they're all Russian apparently. Small market anyway so it'd be a risk as the company might explode as soon as I got hired.

Kotick is notorious for stifling creativity in the company and for price gouging consumers - plus he has no respect for the gaming community in general.

A lot of companies are doing that. UBI is the biggest one I notice. They have taken entire series and changed them into something else. It sucks too because the stuff they're produce that isn't made in house is usually pretty good. The biggest thing they're messing up at the moment is the new IL-2 game. The old one was THE WWII airplane sim that people were playing online. The new one they seemed to have shoved out the door well before it was done, and despite release in Europe, they keep delaying the US release. Sucks because I love simulators and they seem to be the main outlet of such games.

My big hope with Activision was that they merged with Blizzard. Also on their home page it said they were looking for vets, so I was hoping that would help give me that extra boost when I applied . May have to rethink that.

Ergh, Actiblizzion's meddling put me off World of Warcraft. I might reconsider once Diablo III comes out.

Heh, was he one of the guys changing everything about that game? I like WoW before the expansions. It used to be a lot of fun. I did PvP a lot with PvE to break it up, but once they separated the paths so that you could really only PvP or PvE (or do both and basically play 2 games at once) I was done.

I'm looking forward to Diablo III as well. I would still be happy to work for Bliz. They have been a pretty prestigious company for some time now. Getting into Bethesda or Id though, I'd have to be on top of my game. Don't see that happening for a very long time if ever.

Cause hiring an actor to run the state was certainly the best way to fix the states debt.

Well said, I'm not saying it would work. The ride would definitely have a bumpy lift off, but most people spend a lot of time on the internet and gas is expensive as well as timely to go through the hassle of a trip. If you're bored and tired of watching c-span then go waste some time voting on stuff.

If you give people a reason and a purpose, they become largely more responsible. My experience in the military has taught me and repeatedly shown itself to be true as I grow older.

The debt problems were caused by common people interfering the budget ensuring that it was impossible to run a surplus.

So you're saying a good governor couldn't have possibly seen that as one of the many problems and possibly done, or at least provoked, something to help fix it?

Not without getting rid of the idiotic initiative process. Too much democracy is a bad thing. Democracy itself is a bad thing - only democratic republicanism works well.

Only in times of prosperity, one could argue that it's outdated and gridlocked with policies. It's ironic that the tyrannic nation we fled from is now more free in many ways than we are. All we have left is guns and a proud history. And like I said, if California had a smarter/WISER leader...

Philosophically, I'm very much in favor of direct democracy.

Practically speaking, I'd like to see it tested out first, somehow, before we start applying it to the whole nation.

Here's a test on 9/12/2001 have everyone vote on whether we should nuke Saudi Arabia and see how the vote turns out.
I know I would've voted for nuking Mecca.

And? It was 200 years ago. The times change. The democracy can be deeper. You can improve the things. Things that 200 years ago were right, now no.

They weren't perfect, they could do mistakes. If you give more freedom, they fought for freedom, and it is more freedom. What is the problem?
