We've been doing that (and beyond) in WA for 5 years now, with no detectable change in violence. At a cost of $10M/year just for the P2P BGCs enforcement, its netted one single conviction, and that only after the prohibited person shot someone (and so was just a tac-on to their murder charge).

Does something lead you to think it'll be more effective at the national level?

You are incorrect. What is stopping Flaco-the-felon's cousin from buying a gun and handing it over?

Gallery is shut down. Other on-line sites are soon to follow.
Gun stores are considered "non-essential" here in California.
Not sure if they'll allow a gun show to happen now.

Straw purchases will happen either way. Criminals will get guns either way.

Only the law abiding will be harmed-and registration is only for confiscation period.

Gun shows are cancelled. Gun stores are only open for those picking up after their 10 day wait.

    Washington has gun registration?
If so I will have to research it some as I have no knowledge on it — it has worked in other nations however.
It could be because the surrounding states do not have the same provisions, just a guess.

Because when Flaco-the-felon commits a crime his cousin would face the same penalty.

So what? You should still be planning in advance of a purchase, beit a car or a firearm, if for no other reason than to avoid the problems in the OP.

Not so. According to the straw purchasers public defender, he made no false statements when buying, and Flaco took it without his permission. Adding burglary to his murder charge doesn't bother Flaco.

These laws have no effect on criminals. What reasonable person thinks that someone willing to risk the penalty of murder wound't risk the penalty of a gun law?

Sure it does, theft increases the penalty and Flaco’s cousin now goes on a list. It will prevent ineligible people from buying at gun and trade shows for instance.

I don't see how being a victim of theft puts someone on the "no buy" list. The point is that no law prevents someone who wants a gun from getting one. Serial numbers are easily removed, any amateur machinist can make ghost guns, and 3D printers can produce murder weapons for all criminals.

Gun laws only provide Flaco with easy victims.

How does the cousin go on a list if Flaco steals his cousins gun?

You haven't thought this through before you posted.

Stolen guns would be tracked by who they were stolen from to verify that there is no pattern of illicit activity. I have thought it through and read how other nations have successfully implemented similar programs.

We have mandatory BGCs on all purchases, including private. Given that those BGC records are kept somewhere, thats the same as a registry.

As far as guns being brought in illegally, theres nothing to stop that from happening if it were a national policy either. The only difference would be that the guns would be foreign-made instead of domestic.

That, and we'd be wasting 50 times as much money enforcing the pointless law.

So then why not just get rid of all gun laws?
    No background checks at all.
    No gun free zones
    No age requirements

That isn’t the same a registration
Registration is meant to monitor second transfer of ownership, which happens no where in the US that I am aware of.

It has to be, they might make it a pain in the ass if you want to do it legally, but that's just motivation to break the law and if that's the case the walls are punitive I don't really serve any other purpose.

That's only federally licensed firearms dealers. I can buy a gun from a private citizen and they don't have to know anything.

Nobody should have to plan to exercise their rights. Clearly the infringements have finally gone too far...

What I don't understand is why anyone who could own a gun, and doesn't have mental health issues, does not already own a gun. Generally speaking one buys a life vest before falling in the water.
