Members of a Norwegian lawmaker's own party have called for his resignation after he publicly denied the Holocaust.

Labor Party lawmaker Anders Mathisen reportedly told the Finnmarken newspaper that the Holocaust never happened and challenged readers to prove him wrong. “There is no evidence the gas chambers or mass graves existed," he told the newspaper, according to reports. "Even reputable Holocaust historians have admitted it cannot be established.”

The lawmaker has refused to resign from the party.

"Holocaust survivors are aghast at the morally repugnant comments of a Norwegian member of Parliament," Elan Steinberg, vice president of the American Gathering of Holocaust Survivors and their Descendants, said in a statement. "They are an insult to the memory of all victims of Nazi brutality, Jew and non-Jew."

Those who do not acknowledge the past mistakes are doomed to repeat them.

 

Eishenhower murdered millions of german civilians by his policy of urban bombing and then murdered millions of german POWs after the war in his concentration camps. He had a big incentive to make the germans look as evil as possible.

 

I'm fairly sure the Germans were evil... you know with the systematic killing and horrible forced medical experiments and all.

The Germans were the ones who performed urban bombing runs before anyone else.......They also murdered and totured POW's during the war. They attacked civilian ships in both World War 1 and 2......and they kidnapped civilians to use for experimenting new nerve gases and other weapons......

 

That's the same thing the appeasers that allowed Hitler to rise in power said, how'd that turn out for them? It was the fear of WWI that stayed the hands of many, which perpetuated the problem into something so much worse.

Quite a few yrs ago knew someone who took in foreign exchange students and one was a teenage girl from Germany. She told her hostess the holocaust never happened b/c that's what her German teacher told the class....... will always have the deniers despite the evidence.....

 

They may have been the first nation to employ urban bombing in ww2, but then the allies took it up and killed 50 times more civilians than the germans did. That was the real holocaust of ww2 and that's why the phony jewish holocaust myth was invented. So the allies could say "yeah, we killed millions of civilians but look what THEY did."

This isn't surprising when consideration is given to Norway's historical antisemitism. It also isn't surprising that some Norwegians would like to deny their nation's complicity in the Holocaust.

That being said I have to agree with the previous poster that outlawing the voicing of such sentiments, no matter how ignorant or disgusting, reeks of fascism. It isn't much different than burning books.

 

Norwegians are long noted for Quisling, Nazi sympathizer and co-conspiratory, Quisling.

 

I can forgive him. It's what he believes. China makes it so nobody can know about the Titanman square massacare. My old english teacher says in college, their was someone handing out pamphlets that the holocaust never happened. He doesn't believe the Holocaust happened, and that is his belief. I don't like it, and think he should have been more careful about his choice of words.

 

When I was living in Beijing and asked about Tianamen Square people told me about it, their perspective on the issue is quite different than Westerners though. I never met a person who denied it ever happened.

The problem I see with the holocaust is you can't even ask questions about it without being accused of being a denier.

 

They don't teach it in school. They lock down the square, but people do know about it.
