He is lucky if that is all that happens to him. I think in some Euro nations the penalty for holocaust denial is death by crucifiction.

 

Laws against holocaust denial are common in Europe. They do not value free speech in the way that Americans do.

The specific number is largely irrelevant. If it was only 500,000 or 1 million, it would still be an atrocity.

Or did they just decide that after fighting a brutal 6 year war against a relentless enemy, that they needed some more propoganda? Any nation occupied by the Nazi's most certainly didn't need any convincing of their evils and atrocities.
Or perhaps everyone in Europe at the time just lied about how bad Hitler and his merry band were, and tens of thousands of soldiers and civilians made a giant conspiracy?

Exactly - the holohoax was propaganda. The allies had murdered millions of civilians by their policy of urban bombing and needed to deflect criticism. So they used the time-honored tactic of absolving your own crimes by making your victim look even worse. History is written by the victors.

I finished watching the dvd - Ken Burns' The War. I believe it was in the last section where an American Soldier said words to the effect "I was there. I saw it. It happened." Years ago, when I was in grad school, I talked to a WW II Vet who said the same thing.

 

Smart political move. It will weed out the ones with special interist in isreali issues. Then they will know how many Jewish people are trying to overthrow their government and media broadcasts. They are just trying to keep Denmark Denmark, and not fall in economic status like the USA..

So a politician cannot have his own opinion about history (however incorrect it may be) without fear of losing his job? It was not as though he was going around telling everyone his beliefs.

 

Only 10 percent of Germans were part of the Nazi party, as someone with German heritage this kind of ignorant generalization really irks me. So were the Jewish Germans and the Germans who supported other ideologies and political parties and fought against the Nazis evil too? Imagine that America or whatever country you're from is taken over by a brutal dictatorship, does that make it right for opposing countries to bomb areas with high population density practically completely occupied by civilians?

 

I am guessing there are many many more politicians who have doubts about the mainline historical accounts of the Holocaust, but most of them do not dare speak out for fear of jeopardising their careers and reputations.

History professors in the Arab world have much more freedom to question the Holocaust:
