Sounds like these security guards were not very well trained. Excerpt: July 16, 2005, 16-year-old Travares McGill was in a parked car with a group of friends in the parking lot of an apartment complex. According to news reports, police reports and court records, two security guards – William Patrick Swofford and Bryan Ansley – shined a light into the car Travares and his friends were in, and the kids panicked. McGill, who was driving, backed up and then tried to speed away. The security guards were doing a routine patrol of the area but they never identified themselves to the teens. As McGill tried to drive away, he was shot in the back. The guards said they opened fire because they thought they were in imminent danger – that McGill was at first driving toward them. Even though the car veered away from them, Swofford kept firing even after it was no longer headed in the guards’ direction. At first, no charges were filed against Swofford or Ansley by Sanford police. Turns out, Swofford was a volunteer with the Sanford police department and Ansley was the son of a former Sanford police officer. Ansley and Swofford were finally charged in November of that year – Swofford with manslaughter and both Swofford and Ansley with shooting into an occupied vehicle. The case went to trial, but it was eventually dismissed by a judge who determined that it was a case of self-defense. Ansley, by the way, was arrested two more times after the shooting of McGill. In 2008 he was arrested for overstepping his boundaries and acting like a security guard even though his license was revoked; he said he didn’t know his license was no longer good. He was arrested again in 2010 for impersonating a police officer. The circumstances between the Martin case and the McGill case differ, but the resemblances and parallels are disturbingly obvious. http://blogs.orlandoweekly.com/inde...st-time-a-black-teen-shot-to-death-in-sanford
In reality a group of thugs decided to drive the car straight at the Guards who fired at them in self defenceand one of the thugs died. I guess you think 'properly trained' security guards should just allowed themselves to be hit. Guess the moral of he story is....Don't drive you car at a security guard.
Sanford has a long history of racism.. Read up on "Goldsboro".. Sanford used to be the celery capital.
Wrong again! It is not because you know ONE town of Goldsboro, that it is the only one that exists! http://www.city-data.com/neighborhood/Goldsboro-Community-Sanford-FL.html You know, there is also a "Washingon" in Georgia, that doesn't mean that Washington doesn't exist in the District of Columbia! And if you follow the avove link, you will know about Goldsboro, FL This seems to be the big difference between you and Margot. . . .. When we are unclear or doubtful about a statement made, before we negate a member post, we CHECK on the statement!
The demographics of the Retreat had changed quite rapidly with falling property values... The renters moving in were often Black or Hispanic. Frank Taaffe was quite vocal about "low lifes" moving in. You can see him in several videos. As for Sanford/Goldsboro.. and the history of racism and conflict... you can go to Google and choose whatever source you like.
A couple of vague similar aspects I guess but I don't see what's disturbing about them. There are sadly, lots of violent crimes in the US. Some of them with inevitably have similarities you could pick out.
Take a look at this case.. The shooter is black and she is claiming self defense. http://abclocal.go.com/ktrk/story?section=news/local&id=8998698 I am trying to illustrate a point here..
Do you think because the man was angry he was a threat to her life? Note that he didn't have a gun or a brickbat.. he was just angry.
From the evidence presnted (and that is tiny) the man no was not a threat to her life. Shouting and banging the car is not a threat. If he had grapped her and was beating her head against the windshield then it would be.
I don't think Margot WANTS you to do anything. What you do with the information is a moot point! It is there for you to explore, if you choose not to, it doesn't make a difference for anybody! But if you are interested in the background of the Zimmerman affair, you are welcome to explore the bigger picture.
