She Feels Your Pain… Michelle Obama’s Inaugural Wear Cost More Than Half of Median US Income

When is too much, too much?…
Michelle Obama’s Thom Browne Inaugural dress came in at an estimated $10,000.

Michelle Obama’s dress for the Inaugural Ball by Jason Wu cost an estimated $5,000.

Meanwhile, in the real world, incomes are dropping.
In 2011 the annual median income was $26,364 in America.

That means Michelle Obama’s clothes for Inauguration day cost more than half as much as the median US income.
    She feels your pain.

Only Gawd knows what the wig cost.

Um, do you know if she actually bought them? Because think about it, millions of people watching the innaugragation. Wouldn't it be smarter to give the first lady the dress, as a way of free advertising?

As far as I know they buy their own clothes...but ...let them eat cake. Wouldn't it have been better to wear something a lot less expensive and donate some to charity. You know the Obama's only donated 1% to charity last year...that is appalling to say the least...but socialism is for the people not the socialist.

And how do you know they buy their own clothes?

And just a side comment. 2/3 points having nothing to do with the OP. Not a good way to stay on topic.

    And she looked spectacular.

Are you just complaining because she didn't wear a stained halter top and a pair of cutoff jean short?

I guess Repubs only worship certain wealthy people.......Repubs say the Wealthy have ALL EARNED their wealth....why do they make the Obama's an exception???

It's good to see some of the wealthy actually put money into our economy instead of the Cayman Islands or Swiss bank accounts where it usually goes.....

The clothes buying creates jobs for many people...heck, J. Crews stock went up when the Obamas wore their gloves....that's a good thing...

Gosh, it sure sounds like Repubs are sooooo jealous of the wealthy....they want the Obamas to give away their money but don't want the wealthy to pay their fair share of taxes....whacky, just wacky!!!

No, it just doesn't look good when Obama keeps telling us to cut back, get skin in the game, pay our fair share, sacrifice...but they don't.

You obviously have little understanding of economy and the psychology involved in economic stimulus!

Michelle Obama's fashion sense is a windfall for all designers involved, and for the world of American fashion in general.

The money spend on the inauguration clothes was money VERY WELL spent, since it is certain to trigger MILLIONS in business for every designers she showcased!

Why don't you put aside your hatred and pettiness and start using your head to consider the impact THIS First lady has on the world of fashion. . in spite of all the vitriolic and stupid bashing she gets everyday in this forum from a small group of people/

Does it bother you that much that they are spending their money in excess instead of keeping it locked away in a vault? If I recall spending money helps bolster the economy as all that money goes to another person and then that person spends that money on necessities/frivolities, and then that money continues to trickle down to many other people as it is continuously spent in various ways. People with that much money to spend should spend it instead of keeping it locked away in a Swiss bank account.
