I think it's a huge misinterpretation of the law. If women are being raped, such abortions are not considered family planning. It's one thing to be a victim of rape, but to resort to unsafe abortions that only increase maternal mortality rates is even more heinous. An executive order should be placed to administer the law properly. Your comments are welcome.
One thing... the GOP Congress would be forced to react against it. A. because Obama proposed it; B. to not anger their Fetus Fetishists who frankly don't care if a woman is raped or even if she dies....they oppose all abortions. Second... it may be being held off until closer to the General Election or until he is a lame-duck. That would mean Hillary would keep the removal of the policy in place....OR it would force a Republican President to try to get it passed legislatively, and it would be a public relations nightmare for the GOP. Both are pragmatic considerations.....but you're right, the President should go around Helms.
Interesting that Obama hasn't changed it but then again every move he makes has been blocked by Republicans who have idiot constituents who scream, "No abortions with MY tax dollar". ...and women dying from illegal abortions isn't a concern to them......saving a fetus is. ....and ALL abortions should be covered...
When you have religious organisations going to third world countries telling people that contraception is a sin then it doesn't surprise me that so many people, including politicians refuse to accept that change, the pro-life argument will be the same as it is for rape victims in the U.S. that it is not the fault of the foetus how it was conceived so why should it suffer death and yet they are quite content to see women and children killed in their never ending pursuit of controlling others.
I agree completely. Let the women who have been raped decide whether they want an abortion or not. Don't funnel them into giving birth because some people back home, who aren't them and never will be, might be uncomfortable with it.
