You only need to be born in the USA to be elegible for election to the presidency. Jeez James, does an Englishman really have to educate you about your country? As usual, you are mistaken.

Utterly false. You will absolutely say anything and make it sound like fact, won't you? By 1960 all major airlines had jet airlines.

Why don't you just stop being ridiculous now margot?

"Of all the airlines in the United States, Pan American, which the U.S. government considered its “chosen instrument” to represent the American commercial air fleet abroad, was undoubtedly a pioneer in embracing jet aviation. Juan Trippe, the airlines' legendary chief executive officer, had early on expressed a keen interest in operating a passenger jet service capable of flying nonstop across the North Atlantic. Having seen the bright promise of the British Comet fade, Trippe played off two of the biggest domestic airplane builders, Boeing and Douglas. Both companies vied to appeal to Pan American's needs and offered the Boeing 707 and DC-8, respectively. In October 1955, Trippe signed contracts with both companies to buy 45 of these jets (20 707s and 25 DC-8s). Exactly two years later, Boeing rolled out the first operational 707, a Boeing 707-120, and on October 26, 1958, amid much fanfare, Pan American inaugurated its New York-London route, ushering in a new era in the history of passenger aviation. On the very first flight, which made a stopover in Newfoundland, there were 111 passengers, the largest number ever to board a single regularly scheduled flight. Coach fares were $272, about the same as one would expect to pay for a piston-engine flight across the Atlantic.

At first, BOAC competed hard with Pan American. In fact, in order to preempt the Americans, BOAC had rushed ahead and inaugurated its own transatlantic service on October 4, 1958, just three weeks ahead of Pan American. BOAC used the new De Havilland Comet 4, which incorporated improvements to remedy the problems with the older Comet 1. Although BOAC fared quite well, its success was nothing compared to Pan American's. With its rapidly expanding use of the Boeing 707, especially on the transatlantic route, Pan American began a period of almost unchallenged success in the international airline industry. The airline, for example, was the first to recognize the importance to passengers of nonstop flights on long trips; it negotiated with Boeing for a version of the 707 that could fly for a longer time without refueling, known as the 707-320.This allowed the airline to introduce true intercontinental service with nonstop London-to-New York flights on August 26, 1959. This was a perfect case of a dominant air carrier playing the lead role in defining the characteristics of a new class of jets that the industry would produce. The 707-320 was eventually adopted by as many as eleven other airlines within a year.

Within the United States, National Airlines became the first to begin jet service, using leased Boeing 707s, on December 10, 1958. American Airlines offered the first domestic jet service using its own aircraft on January 25, 1959 with a flight from New York to Los Angeles. With this coast-to-coast service, American had a big competitive coup; the two other major domestic U.S. airlines, Trans World Airlines (TWA) and United Airlines, had not anticipated the imminent use of jets for domestic service. TWA quickly scrambled to catch up, and using a single Boeing 707, it joined the coast-to-coast flight market in March 1959. The last minute move helped keep TWA afloat through a difficult period of economic loss.

Not all airlines pinned their hopes on the Boeing 707, however. Douglas had unmatched experience in building the best passenger airliners of the world. United Airlines and Delta both began flying the DC-8 passenger jets in September 1959—latecomers to the domestic jet market precisely because they had depended on Douglas, which introduced jets after Boeing. Eastern Airlines joined them in domestic jet services in January 1960."

They didn't replace their whole fleets in 1960.. Do you know the difference between a turbo prop and a turbo jet and a jet?

How often were you flying internationally in 1950?

The DC 8 was a turbo prop.

The Boeing 707 was alo a Turbo prop.

    You are indeed correct, kk8.

The Obamabots in this group are trying to derail our thoughtful discussions.

You are actually full of beans..

They didn't replace their whole fleets in 1961 and you have NOT flown any of these aircraft.

All you did was cut and paste a lame history of commercial aviation... without knowing one aircraft from another.

Why do you think it took three days flying to get from Arabia to NY?

Sorry Margot, kk8, is correct, the Boeing 707 was never produced with turbo props engines.
    Ref: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Boeing_707
The initial standard model was the 707-120 with JT3C turbojet engines.

    Turboprop engines.

I make no claims to legal credentials- you are the one claiming that Barack Obama is not eligible- and citing a Birther blog as your source.

I have shown you 2 opinions from actual legal experts- the Appeals Court of Indiana, and the Congressional Research Service. You know, judges, and lawyers, with actual credibility and expertise- rather than Birther lawyers who have never won a legal case, or whose career has been primarily defending drunk drivers.

I notice you keep dodging how those two opinions eviscerate your argument.

But you keep relying on Birther Blogs for your information. It will continue to serve you as well as it has in the past.

I meant to write turbo jet.

It was noisy and much slower than today's commercial airliners..

    Do you remember the Comet?

Oh Smartmouthwoman....I find it amusing how much you reflect what you project onto others. You find fault with anything related to the word "Obama" regardless of the truth. You refuse to accept any evidence which upsets your preconceived conclusion.

Look at that mess you copied from below- first of all its from WND- Pravda is a better source of solid reporting than WND- but aside from that- here is WND's- and your conclusion.

    a) Barack Obama's mother was enrolled in College in Seattle, and classes started a few days after Barack's birth.

    b) 5 months later, they report neighbors of Obama's mother moving into Seattle.

    This is your evidence?

Guess what? Enrolling in college doesn't mean you started on the day school starts. WND never found any evidence Ann was in Seattle prior to the Spring Semester- only that she enrolled. I have first hand experience with something like that- I was enrolled in college and started a month after the first day of class. But heck, don't let the lack of evidence get in the way of wild theories.

And what we still come back to is that the evidence- the actual evidence- as opposed to the internet rumors and gossip you are relying upon- show that Barack Obama was born in Hawaii.

And flying to Seattle afterwards, doesn't make him ineligible for President.

Why are all the birthers such seditious welfare parasites?

Seriously, what is it about the birther mind that has them thinking they can turn traitor to the USA, but still suckle at the government teat?

Birthers, you can't have it both ways. If you won't be loyal to your birth country, have the decency to stop grubbing for subsidies.

What part of the Constitution would that be James?

You are being really rather disingenious aren't you James?

You claim not to be a Birther, but, suddenly are spouting Birther rhetoric about what a natural born citizen is.

Yet for the last 3 years, even though you knew his father wasn't a U.S. citizen, you weren't a 'Birther'

What revelation made you decide that all of the sudden the Constitution says what you want it to say?

    Fair enough.

Well the jet engines themselves are rated by thrust.
    Ref: http://www.grc.nasa.gov/WWW/k-12/VirtualAero/BottleRocket/airplane/thrsteq.html

Jet engines, certainly today's turbofans, are able to create more thrust, as oppose to turbojet engines. In addition, today's jet engine manufactorers include "mufflers".

can you show us his SS#, and that it came from conecticut?

can you show for us, exactly how much money he spent "hiding" anything?

of course no other president had to do this. just like obama didn't do this. his "documents" are "hidden" the exact same way as every single previous president before him. except his birth certificate of course, since he is the ONLY president or candidate in the entire history of this country who has ever provided one.

What the hell are you talking about? When did I say I flew anything? And yes of course I cut and pasted....did I claim I wrote the piece too?

Margot...you do really try hard to make everyone believe that you know absolutely everything there is to know about everything, don't you?

This is just a retarded conversation about nothing. It's ridiculous...I'm done.
