    Case? Evidence?

Dude, who cares why they quit. Just hire more to replace them and be on your way. There's no case here, and there's no need for evidence. Go find something else to feed your pitiful emotions with.

Matter of fact, why is this even a headline?

Until we actually hear from the ones who quit as to why - it's all just so much speculation.

Seems to me these "part time" employees were simply milking the city for a check without doing much of anything. There was a new mayor in town who might actually expect them to earn their checks so it was better to quit than get fired.

Well they did vote her in so for me I lean towards corruption in the small town. What that corruption entails could be anything. Another question would be is how many actually voted. In my city of about 30-35k, less than 5k vote.

An employee in Missouri can quit a job at any time without giving a reason. How is quitting a job inherently racist?

You make a good point. It isn't clear who destroyed the evidence, just that it was destroyed. The incoming mayor is not making the case that racism was involved and neither are the residents of Parma.

I can relate. The town I live in has a population of 800 and the first thing I thought about when I saw their pop was "Why would they need that many police?"

We've got two police officers here and it's a very very peaceful town. To have 6, either that town was really corrupt and needed lots of covering up, or they just have a lot of bad people running around.

    You need to quote and source your facts better. Here was what was reported about the emails;

It doesn't say WHO did it. It could have been the clerk or another city official. Now if that's your opinion, then I'm not going to argue it. Also, "According to Mayor Randall Ramsey, five out of six police officers resigned this week, effectively immediately" with no indication they gave notice.

And anyone here with common sense can tell you that with all of the past cases where racism got the blame, the story always ended up being about something else.

You'd think those hardheaded folks would have learned not to jump so fast by now. But they never seem to disappoint. Then they tell themselves numerous lies just so they don't have to admit that they were wrong.

That would be your opinion but there are no supported facts that state that.

we had a Republican superintendant that ran on a platform of trimming the fat in 08. He is the most corrupt Super I've seen in my life. When he eventually leaves office and returns to being principal... if he were to appear in my school, I'd leave.

First thing, I'm not a dude, already you are assuming things not in evidence. Not a good way to start. Since there is nothing illegal about this, there can be no legal case. However, what happened there is newsworthy insofar that racism is a topical subject. Call it human interest if you want but just because you don't like it means that it should not be broadcast or discussed.

Did I say otherwise? I admitted that I gave my opinion but I also gave circumstantial evidence to support my claim of racism. I'm waiting for more facts to come out. If I'm wrong, I'll publicly admit it.

It always looks better better when you quit a job than if you are fired from it. I have a feeling that the cops and the sanitation worker were scamming the city and decided to head out of Dodge before the new mayor had a chance to fire them. The big clues are that they had the same mayor for 30 years and the stuff you just pointed out about them not even being around but still getting paid out of the cities coffers.

    First thing, good for you.

It's only newsworthy to someone looking to fan the flames of racism. Outside of that, it's people quitting their job and nothing more.

You said it was a "prima facie (based on the first impression; accepted as correct until proved otherwise) case" and requires more evidence.

You buck everybody for their opinion, yet your entire premise is based on an opinion, and one that has been proven false time and again.

This is only prima facie to you, unless there are any other people here looking to fan flames. Too many times people have to prove things weren't race related. Now it's your turn to prove that it was.

Knock it off! You gave no evidence whatsoever. What you gave was a bunch of contrived, hysterical hyperbole and race baiting. So are we had a tiny town of 800 people who had the same mayor for over 30 years. We have six police officers which is far more than a town that size needs. Next we have the complaints by locals that despite the city paying for 6 police officers, they almost never saw them. The "logical" and "rational" assumption would be that the cops and the sanitation working were scamming the city and fled town before they could get caught in an audit which would most likely happen with a new mayor. Its better to quit your job than be fired so they read the tea leaves and realized that the gravy train was over and scattered. The people that quit are scum of the earth but they are most likely thieves, not secret KKK members who were upset their Grand Pooba lost the election.

Looking at the statistics, Parma is a small town surrounded by other small town in the Missouri panhandle, Sikeston and Cape Geraldo near by bigger town. Property/Incomes and other values far below State averages, 2 to 1 Whites over Blacks and virtually no crime. The current mayor lost by 67 votes. or so and the new Mayor, did say she wanted to clean up the town, from what is hard to figure.

I doubt the old mayor was very active, kind of the typical small town mayor whose daily hardest decision is "what's for dinner" and letting what appears to have been roll along.

All those that resigned, probably will increase their income, by moving on, but in that area of the US, racism or concern over motivation of someone, may have played a roll. if they were all white, in the first place.

Agree...this is hardly a headline and probably to some degree, happens at all levels, when a long time government, changes.

Not too quick on the uptake, are we? As this story develops, more will come out but as I have pointed out a few times, which hasn't seemed to register with you, there is more than enough circumstantial evidence, whether you believe it or not, to warrant further inquiry about this incident.

Furthermore you seem to completely ignore the fact that the same area that you think if full of racists elected a black female mayor. So are the racsts ONLY in the police department and in sanitation. Does that mean that the firefighters aren't racist because they didn't quit.......oh wait, in a town that size they will be volunteer firefighters like in the smaller communities around my area. So since they weren't embezzling from the city there would be no need for them to scatter.

Myself and others actually put the effort of something called "thought" into this subject and analyzed it. Since everything is circumstantial we will never truly know their motives for certain, but clearly whatever evidence there is points to people abusing the city coffers and getting out of town before the new mayor can do something about it. But critical thinking apparently doesn't apply to you since you just assume right off the bat that its racism. Newsflash, the world is full of vices including addiction, greed, jealousy and so on. There are plenty of motivators that make people act the way they do and whatever little evidence there is most likely implies greed.

Perhaps the officers thought that the city was going to turn into a hell hole after this person got elected.

"It's the get out while you still can mentality." Black politicians haven't really done a good job governing. For everyone 50 black politicians, there seems to be only one good one -- if that.

What "circumstantial evidence"??????? The only circumstantial evidence that could point to this as having a racial motive is the fact that the new mayor is black. That is it.

I have seen situations like this quite often in small town elections. A new person runs for a position and claims that racism is rampant in their small community. Who do you think she was pointing her fingers at? It is likely that it was the people that resigned. They are usually insulted by her remarks during the campaign and will not work for someone that thinks they are corrupt once that person is elected. It happens all the time in small towns here in Oregon. It is one of the aspects of small town life where everybody knows each other.

While race may truly be the issue here, there is absolutely NOTHING that indicates that it is except that the newly elected mayor is black. To immediately jump to that conclusion without proof is idiotic.

The problem with your argument is I never said I was right nor that there may be another reason for these people quitting, such as criminal issues. Everything you state here has been said by myself or others. I've seen no thought here other than people repeating the same thing over and over. I've respected other peoples opinions but found their rationale lacking. Of course there could be many different explanations but the elephant in the room spells out racism. Denying it changes nothing.

The one plausible piece of evidence, however second-handed it is, comes with this statement; "Residents in Parma say Byrd's anti-corruption platform drove off the resigning city officials and officers, not "safety concerns" or racial bias." - source If true, that would put me in error, then I eat crow. But even that seems suspicious. If it's true, state and federal officials will investigate. Until then, I'll wait for more facts to be reported.

The only basis I can see for speculating racism is that these officers (actually 5 officers and an attorney) resigned after an election (the attorney was the one who cited safety concerns, not the officers) of a black mayor. Isn't it just a little presumptuous to assume racism here? Even if it is Missouri which you seem to believe is "inbred", there is no basis for assuming racism is at play here.
