Our education system could get a boost by copying Finland

Who cares what their names are? Are they Americans or not? We still lead the world in everything really even with others starting to "catch up". Take a guess who's technology allowed them all to "catch up"? Who designs most of it? How many PC's, OS's world leading apps, ect, are being designed in Finland? Also, regarding schools...there is really no competition. The US still remains supreme and will continue to do so.

Regarding Chinese leading or designing anything...what if they weren't allowed to steal patents? They are NOTORIOUS, breaking every patent law under the sun. Its fricken despicable. People and companies here would be getting fined and sued left and right. Good luck suing a Chinese corporation without any global ties. They can do whatever they want because they don't play by the rules the rest of us do. They use slave labor to lead in manufacturing and almost every piece of tech is stolen and reverse engineered. Blacks perform badly on ALL WRITTEN EXAMS that have any component tested that could require general intelligence.

The last slave died quite a while ago as did the last slave owner. The percentage of blacks alive today that lived under Jim Crow is very small, ~20%. The percentage of whites that are descendants of slave owners is really small. I'd guess it's < 5%. So the basis for your conflict tangentially involves tiny fractions polluting the entire population. It's pure rubbish but it's all you've got.

We are not so well situated as you might think. The leftwads took over education 40 years ago and it's been downhill at full speed since. Our human capital, the sum of our societal abilities, is sliding off the cliff. Kids CAN get that condom on the banana but they cannot solve a quadratic equation and your never going to believe how badly they write, read and spell.

IMO, egalitarianism and indoctrination are the root causes of our demise. All kids cannot perform at the same level no matter how hard you teach them. 'Special needs' kids are a total suck hole of funding and resources. They are a very bad investment of scarce educational effort. And those resources come out of the pool that would otherwise fund or best and brightest.

We are doomed. Just look at the last election if you have any doubt. SHRUG.

 

It also seems that Finland has about 127 people..we have over 300 million. The quickest, easiest move we can mkae to improve our schools is SCHOOL CHOICE, which= COMPETITION for education dollars, instead of a government administered, TAXPAYER FUNDED, monopoly to enrich the unions.

 

So you don't believe in equal opportunity, got you. Thing is, Finland has a whole population of well educated people, you have a very small percentage. Which country stands the best long term chances?

You could also take your premise and apply it to "freedom and liberty". Not really the principles that the USA were built on now are they.

I posted a thread about this subject about 2 years ago, I listed the entire history of Africans in the USA, with dates. When did they finally get the same legal status as whites again? When could they use the same water fountain as whites? Go to the same schools? Bob Dylan wrote songs about it, just to give you an idea of the date.

 

What we need to do is create an army of highly qualified teachers. We need to train them better, Train them like we do doctors and lawyers. We need to pay them very well. We need to drop than standardized test crap. We need lower student to teacher ratios. We need better tutoring programs outside of school. All of these would greatly improve the quality of education in the US.

 

The scars were not inflicted by choice. The scars were inflicted intentionally by envious, malicious people.

Furthermore, most successful blacks will tell you that they had to be twice as good as their white peers to succeed. Of course if you are an a** licking Uncle Tom, like Clarence Thomas, then you can make it.

Agreed, but no amount of money or student to teacher ratios will fix children who's parents simply don't give a %$&#*#. Take it from someone married to a teacher who's from a family with lots of teachers. I get to hear a lot. If the kid doesn't want to learn, no teacher can FORCE him/her to learn. There are always exceptions, but if the parents aren't pushing education at home, the kids are mostly doomed. Obviously some kids can overcome those obstacles, but a cruddy family life leads to cruddy kids, especially if the genes aren't there. 2 parents with PHD's who come from families of smart people normally produce smart children. That doesn't mean the kid is motivated, but generally its a smart kid at the core. A single mom working at a fast food joint and a father that took off or is in jail, normally don't produce genetically smart children. Race has no bearing. And like I said before, there are ALWAYS exceptions.

There are two many cases of African Americans being top scientists, doctors, and authors like anyone else. You flip this shlt out to cover your own problems with black people.

 

The teachers are not the problem.....funding is not the problem.....we simply have an increasing number of low IQ, low skilled minority students who can't perform at the levels we want them to under our new "we are all the same" doctrine. A minority with an IQ of 72 simply can't perform on the same level as his/her 115 IQ white classmate........but No Child Left Behind assumes, as its basic premise, that they can learn/perform similarly........thus the cheating scandals in the school systems.

let me give a break down of my class. And I challenge any Finland school (or any school in the world) to do a better job with what I have than what I am doing....

18 kids in an elementary school ESE (special needs) class all subjects, all day long (minus special area)

3 - 3rd grade
-all try hard but looooooowwwwww.
-1 was sexually abused by grandad, and the father covered for his dad

5 - 4th grade
most are good behavior and low academics, but 2 twins that showed up at our doorstep 2 weeks before state testing (and guess which school gets stuck with their grade.... not the school that had them for the 3 previous grading periods.... but the one that had them for 2 weeks) that are class A PITA's. Loud mouthed, drama filled and as low as anyone in the class, even the 68 IQ kid

9 - 5th grade
This is the problem portion of the class. In it has
a 14 y.o. boy that is ADHD/ADD but is allowed to eat cotton candy and drink Mt. Dew code reds for breakfast because he cries and tantrums to the point of parents caving. He's ever so pleasant as he will not stay in his seat. He can't add or subtract, and reading is WAY below as well.
a 13 y.o. girl that is in 5th grade for the 3rd time in a row.
a 5th grade boy who has been absent for 6 weeks straight
a 5th grade boy with a 68 IQ working on a 1st grade level.

2 - 6th grade
a sweet as sugar autistic girl, but is an easy target for bullies from the 5th grade portion of my class
a 12 y.o. abused child who now lives in foster care.... no parents

Not that I'm complaining, I knew exactly what type of class this was when I agreed to take the job. But to trying to hold me to the same standard of "good teacher" that everyone else is saying I must be measured.... ie - judging me on how my class performs on state testing.....


I have made the challenge before and I'll say it again.....


I challenge ANYONE to take my 20 students and teach them better

also

if I can hand pick my class (like charter schools and private schools are allowed to do), I will perform just as well as anyone.


The problem I have is trying to measure teachers on standards that not all can handle. My autistic girl can never perform the same as the average kid.


I can't teach a kid who doesn't show up and since the school can't even get ahold of the mother.... How am I supposed to show a year's growth for that kid when he's missed almost 1/4 of the school year?

 

Kids like these need to be segregated. They can only destroy the productive education of average and above average students. But the concept of disparate impact is killing this intellectual/behavioral segregation. Often classes of the most troubled students are over-represented with blacks and hispanics and that allows the leftist to assume it's a race based culling. It's killing America.

Let's stop counting people by race. All this garbage ends tomorrow.

 

Coping finland will do nothing to improve our educational system.

America is not a homogenous society like finland.
