A new billboard in Baltimore, Maryland, has gotten a crabby response from some of the city’s seafood-lovers.

People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals (PETA) recently posted a billboard that encourages people to ditch crabs and “go vegan" near several seafood restaurants in the city's Inner Harbor neighborhood.

The billboard, which features a blue crab, reads “I’m ME. Not MEAT. See the individual. Go vegan.”

In a statement, the animal advocacy group said that sign comes “as part of a nationwide campaign to encourage diners to leave crabs and other sea animals off dinner plates and in their aquatic homes.”

“Just like humans, crabs feel pain and fear, have unique personalities, and value their own lives,” PETA executive vice president Tracy Reiman said in the statement. “PETA’s billboard aims to give Charm City residents some food for thought about sparing sensitive marine animals the agony of being boiled alive or crushed to death in fishing nets simply by going vegan.”

But many Marylanders aren’t on board with the group’s message.

“It’s part of the city’s history, you know what I mean?” Gerard Brown, who eats crab, told CBS Baltimore. “Without seafood, there is no Baltimore.”

“This is a bold play in Baltimore,” one Twitter user wrote.

Restaurant owners, too, have expressed their discontent with the billboard.

“I don’t think they knew what they are getting themselves into when they put that up,” John Minadakis, of Jimmy’s Famous Seafood, told the news station.

Residents need to put up their own billboard, like this:

Change the text to “I’m MEAT, so EAT! Be an individual, not a Vegan.”

Crabs told me they like to be eaten, you know, since they can talk and all.

Shellfish are yummy so I eat them because I’m higher on the food chain.

Technically you produced your own food source.

You could have had a shellfish dinner every night.

If it was a really strong case of crabs you'd have enough to invite your friends over and have a party of Good Eats.

Those crabs would sure eat us, do as a matter of fact every chance they get. Guess they don't get the PETA newsletter. If I had a restaurant in the area of that, would send PETA a thank you note for putting a particularly tasty looking crab on their billboard.

Also PETA does a world of good at the polls... for the other side.

I like Chesapeake Bay crab ! Better than lobster.. even though Inam a New Englander. Funny story but true. Years ago when I first heard the term vegans I had no idea but I understand that they were from California. So I asked a friend who grew up in California and he said that they were Homosexual Vegetarians. Sounded true but I found out later that they were just another form of whack jobs not necessarily homosexuals.n

It wouldn’t surprise me, at that level of the food chain. :D
LOL – good one. Reverse psychology.
And they aim their ads at kids. Then they complain about cigarette companies aiming ads at kids…
Heh. I once met a fanatical Vegan at a party. I asked her a hypothetical question about what she would do if she was the queen of the whole world, and she said she’d make it a crime to eat any animals. I asked her what the penalty would be and she said ‘death’. I said, “How about a man whose children are starving, feeding them a mouse that was about to die anyway…” She said, “Death.” She was a bit of a party killer. :D

Here’s another PETA billboard, and my version:

Vegans have their place in the world. I think any hunter who doesn't feel a bit of a kick in the nads after they've learned what it means to kill a fellow animal is somebody I don't want to associate with. It's a hell of a thing to kill something that was once peacefully going about its business before you showed up.

That said, Vegans need to shut the hell up. They don't know anything worth knowing, so they just embarrass themselves whenever they open their mouths.

IT is an easy and fun thing to destroy the PETAfiles using their own logic. If we don't kill TRILLIONS of rats every day who will eat all the grain in the world, the PETAfiles will have nothing to eat themselves, and starve. And of course, they cannot have vehicles like cars, because these cars kill animals. So to save animals, they must walk everywhere, woops, they still kill ants. Damn are they screwed.

Their very existence is a killer of animals, and the only way out is for PETAfiles is to eliminate themselves.

I was a veggie for 7 years and I came to the conclusion that Miss Piggy wants to be a bacon sandwich when she's grows up ;)

And let’s not forget – they will happily hog down (pardon the pun) a human or two when hungry enough, leaving only a couple of bones and some dentures.
Yes; a fitting end. Let’s face it, every time they eat veggies pulled from the soil they’re digesting hundreds of tiny animals, even when the plants are washed. Also, they’ve consistently shown they don’t mind scaling down the significance. They started with cows but now they’re down to fish and chickens, which tells us they will eventually be against killing flies and worms. If that’s true then how about the bacteria they kill every time they eat, sneeze, scratch themselves or walk?

These militant vegans; the ones who don't eat meat so therefore I can't either, are godless hypocrites!

It's pretty fun to troll PETA's Twitter account. They get really triggered easily.

Gotta love how out of context this post is.

Since I stopped eating meat, I've seen increases in levels of energy plus I'm less sick. What's wrong with getting kids to stop eating cows and pigs? You don't have to be a PETA supporter to know there are health benefits behind dumping meat. Will McDonald's suffer? Probably, but America will get a lot healthier. Ultimately, we are all animals. We all live in the same kingdom. That kingdom can be thrown off balance when we all start becoming carnivores.

You are only eating grass eating cows if the cows you are eating are of the grass-fed variety.

HEHEHEHE We got to the top of the food chain because we killed other animals. Have you ever heard of "survival of the fittest"? It is the way mother nature plays her game. It has been that way for a billion years. I kill and I eat meat. The way it should be.

And you are aware that if we don't kill other animals, we will starve, yes, even the vegans. Just an inconvenient truth for you to swallow with your burger.

Nature is supposed to take its course regarding population, not be dependent upon hunters. That’s the why it’s always meant to be. There was survival of the fittest back in the days of the Ice Age, but that doesn’t apply anymore. Unless you are in the Rain Forest and part of a tribe.
