Hey sec, do you think it is moral or ethical for the majority opinion of the world to dictate how others live their lives?

Is this on topic or off topic by the way? I am trying to be on topic and I have asked you several very relevant questions to the thread topic but have not received a response from you yet. =(

pas: I'd like to walk around naked everywhere but I know that some would think that immoral and also, I'd have to fight off all of the ladies who would like to sample what they don't get at home.

There are some who think it A-O-K to molest little kids and within their circle, it is acceptable. I offer to you the homosexual couple who adopted a little boy and then rented him out to other homosexual pedophiles. I absolutely view that as immoral as does the majority of the world, but obviously there were those who thought the behavior to be acceptable. Heck, they had their own network called "the boy lovers network"

linky linky in case you don't recall the case http://www.nydailynews.com/news/crime/2-convicted-adopted-son-porn-article-1.1385895

So, despite what the majority think about X or Y, there will always be those who disagree and go about their lives not concerned about what others think.

So you want to make comparisons to this topic that aren't about gays and abortion, but I'm not allowed to?

Why don't we go back to my post about Iran's majority population who views the Bahá'í as immoral infidels and their persecution and murder of these people and how they constantly spread propaganda and say that they are terrorists and a danger to people's children?

How's about that for a more accurate comparison? You know, since we're allowed to make comparisons and draw analogies now.

This is what happens when the majority starts to view a minority of the population as immoral, deviants, abhorrent, heathens, sickos, or even pedophiles even when they are not any of these things.

    incorrect

homosexual sex is deviant. It does not mean that homosexuals are put to death in the USA for having homosexual sex

It does not mean that it's not a deviant sexual lifestyle nor does it stop those of faith from deeming it immoral

You are correct. But then those who support gays only want to use shame and name calling against those who disagree with them. This discourages honest dialogue on the topic and will only lead to resentment by those who see homosexuality as immoral. It is a very big leap gay supporters are trying to make here without a leg to stand on.

    correct

we are simply looking at their sexual lifestyle choice much the way you look at a vegan, a fisherman, a hunter etc.

Some folks view recreational fishing, both catch and release and catch and eat as mean and despicable. Others view it as being OK.

We all have opinions on things and we are entitled to them. That goes for he 3.6% who choose to have sex differently than the rest of us. We may think it disgusting, immoral and wrong, but we don't deny them from engaging in it.

There are more important things in which to measure a person than how they have sex. Are they hard working, honest, compassionate? Or, do they have a superiority complex where they believe that their opinion should be forced upon others? Do they feel entitled to the earnings of others? Do they kill others, steal etc etc

You are right, it also does not stop society, the US or otherwise, from eventually becoming what Iran has become, a hostile place for people of certain faiths and for gays and lesbians.

When you continually support and argue that an entire group of people is perverse, immoral and continue to align them with illegal activities such as pedophilia what you are doing is no better than what governments do around the world to certain minorities. They persecute them to the point that society has no qualms about publicly executing them.

That is wrong and that is just one of the many reasons homosexuals fight against these labels. They don't want these labels to become the accepted norm and then ultimately face persecution and possible violence and death in their daily lives.

Perhaps you think calling them nasty names and labeling them isn't going to harm them, but imagine living in the US now and nearly every single person and the government held the same opinion you do about homosexuals, that they are perverse, immoral deviants with a propensity to become pedophiles. How do you think they would be treated in that world? They'd probably be in hiding for the most part, but if they were ever caught...

I have never called anyone here any names if you mean me.

I don't use the term homophobe or bigot or anything like that. I find name calling to be rather pointless and thread derailing to be honest. It is also a violation of the rules of this forum.

That's not true though. Sexuality is a very important factor in our lives because it will ultimately determine who we spend the rest of our lives with. If a person is gay and brings home his boyfriend to meet his parents and his parents kick them out and disown him for choosing a life partner that is a man that can be extremely detrimental to a person.

I saw another user on here mention how as a black person, while he may have faced discrimination outside the home he never had to fear being kicked out of his own home for being black. But as a gay person not only do you have to deal with daily discrimination outside the home but you may very well be kicked out for being gay. How is that right?

parents kick out kids from home for reasons which others might deem trivial. It's not just a homosexual issue so please spare us

If you get your butt kicked out, suck it up and make it on your own. Life isn't fair and that goes for if you're kicked out for tattoos, grades, disrespect, sex life, whatever.

Which is totally messed up for our society! When you push kids out onto the street for such trivial things all that does is turn them to worse things. What is the point in being so hateful and cruel to people let alone our own children? Why? Because of moral beliefs? So it is acceptable to give a child the boot because your moral beliefs state they are messed up?

I'll never understand this kind of thinking, that it is ever ok to put a child on the street because they are gay, or got a tattoo or because they have bad grades, how does that help them? How does it help us create responsible adults who will eventually become members of society? Don't we want respectable, responsible adults to be in society?

And on that note I don't understand how labeling and demeaning other people helps you or them in any way shape or form. All it does is create an environment of persecution and violence towards them!

    Back to the OP again:

The majority of the world finds homosexuality immoral
The United States, Canada and the Western world doesn't

As an American, I am comfortable that my morals mirror that of Americans.

we need licenses to drive, to fly a plane, to drive a truck. We must be a certain age to purchase alcohol but, anyone can become a parent.

Nobody said life was fair. Personally, we raised 2 nephews as our own children because they were not wanted or cared for by their "parents". Our natural born children view them as their big brothers.

There will always be people who kick dogs, buy drugs/alcohol vs feed their families, abuse spouses/children. But, there will always be people out there who disagree with that and open their homes to unwanted children.

As for those 18 and over who find themselves kicked out for whatever reason, they are adults. As I've said, life isn't fair. At that point, you can choose to suck it up, not feel sorry for yourself and move ahead, or, take a whoa is me attitude and spiral downward.

Too bad more posters aren't the same. Unfortunately when they start losing a debate they go on the attack. Sad.

I recommend anyone here who is called a homophobe, a bigot, a deviant, a pedophile or any other nasty names report it to the mods immediately. That'll nip any nasty name calling right in the butt.

    hmm

    let's review the suggestions

homophobe- a nonsense word much like calling someone a poopoocoocooamalgamam thus not an insult

bigot- each one of us is a bigot be it in our choices of coffee, clothing, food, favorite color, activities etc

deviant- most of us are probably deviants in some manner or other. I'll come clean, I dunk my McDonalds burger into my milkshake. If I had sex while standing on my head then that would be deviant behavior as well

pedophile- I have not seen one person on this forum accuse another of being a pedophile no matter how "heated" the posts

Doesn't matter. You don't get to call people names here or label them anything they don't want to be labeled.

If they do it then report them, that's what I do and it takes care of all this off-topic name calling really quickly.

Rule #2 specifically states that we must focus on the posts not the poster.

I'm with you and can only police myself and thus why

not one of my posts insults another poster

Now, I do know that my posts where I provide facts do get reported to moderators because the facts are unsettling. But, shooting the messenger is never a good idea nor trying to silence those with dissenting viewpoints.

Frankly, if I were to report every time I get called a bigot, homophobe, hater, accused of lying AND, if the mods actually took action, there would be about 80-90% less posters here as they would have been banned

In order for a person with common sense to come into this subsection, one must be willing to accept insults and to understand that you are carefully scrutinized and reported frequently. One must also understand the double standards of rules enforcement within this subsection.

If you accept that, then you can post here. It's like walking on rice paper. I, and a few others actually police each other and PM each other if we feel that despite being insulted by the usual suspects, that we cannot respond in kind because it is us who will receive the infraction. So, we will send calming PM's and laugh at the hypocrisy and double standards.

Be honest, without "us", this place would just be a boring old choir singing the same song and what fun would there be in that? Aren't you at least glad that a few of us understand the special rules by which we must adhere in order to post in this subsection?

Never said it did. I am saying that if people start name calling whatever it is, homophobe, bigot, baby killer, pro-abort, anti-choice, pedophile, deviant, etc. it should just be reported.

Then so be it. I personally would love to see people stop dragging topics off and derailing threads with the whole homophobe name-calling crap because then it always turns into a thread about the word homophobe and becomes a stupid semantics debate. It's completely and utterly retarded. And I use that word sparingly.

Uh no, we don't need to accept insults ever. There is never any reason for them. They are nothing more than pointless ad homs.

Do what you want. I report name calling myself because I am quite tired of seeing it.

You mean the same old pedophile song you keep singing? I have to laugh 'cause you got tired real quick of the marriage debate and you call that beating a dead horse, now you're beating the homosexual pedophile horse to pieces. lmao

    Seriously, you're getting chunks everywhere.

But I get it, this topic much like the abortion debate leads us all back full circle into the same old subjects again and again. Maybe it's time to try a new forum or sub-forum. I've been peeping in Race Relations lately, although that's kinda freaky, racism all over the place. I don't even know if I wanna touch that stuff with a ten foot pole.

I would not suggest the abortion forum because there is no middle ground in life or death

in the sports section, if you even dare claim that Big 10 or Pac 12 football is equal to the SEC then I'll jump down your throat

I will however join you in crapping on Muskrat, the current head coach at UF
