Most of us got wind and rain, me included. The damage is cray. I’m pretty sure most of my peeps are okay. Mostly worried about my BFF’s mother, who is really close. Record surge. Most think the wind is the problem. It’s the surge that kills.
Wicked storm, not much warning and it got a lot more powerful than the weather pros saw coming. Lost a lot of stuff over here due to Harvey, not as bad as being wiped out from a wildfire or a Tornado, but still somewhat life changing.
I’m not trying to brag, but my husband, one of the county’s top behind the scene hurricane experts, saw it coming, as did his 2,500 followers. It came quickly simply because you weren’t paying attention. My husband starting tweeting about this on the 21st.
Your husband is very astute, but this storm was overdue. FL just sits there like a big, low-lying whatever sticking right out into the stormy Caribbean. Most everybody thinks of "Hurricanes" whenever they even look at it.
My brother from another mother @FatBack , your politics I certainly disagree with but, I hope you are well and although the title of this song seems flippant, not my intent at all. This song always makes me very happy, and since it’s made by one of your Tampa homeboys I just thought you might enjoy it if you even have service to watch this.
I just got internet service back on my phone sometime this afternoon. Phone calls and texts have been spotty all day. But I'm not homeless and there was no major damage to my house and I'm alive. Thanks for the song!
Woot! I would so miss explaining to you how wrong you are. Literally, one of the best guys to disagree with around here.
Thank you very kindly mam. The town is devastated and 90% of the county is without power and many are homeless. The town is pitch Black except for any place running generators. We had sustained winds are probably a hundred miles an hour for a good 2 hours with 140 MI an hour gust. Giant trees are down everywhere and roofs are ripped off and carports mostly blew off in the wind all over the place. But I'm alive and well. I'm just sitting up here at work in my van until 6:00 a.m. to deter any looters. I've got my doors locked but the back door open so I can get a breeze and there's a lot of stuff in there so no one can enter quickly. And you can bet your ass I'm not sitting here defenseless. The police know I'll be up here all night so that's good.
The pictures are brutal. The Sanibel Causeway sums up the devastation quite perfectly. One of the worst disasters the country has seen. So truly appreciate that you are okay. So far, news from all my friends and family is good.
They said this storm was every bit as bad as Charlie only much bigger and slower. We were just to the right of the eye and I believe it stalled out right there for a good hour. Glad to hear everyone is okay. My father and brother in Tampa are fine. They only got about 3 in of rain and some tropical storm force winds
lost a good bit of stuff due to Harvey so I’m familiar with the pain a little bit of these things. my heart goes out to y’all and if I was more able to I’d be headed over with chainsaw and other stuff to help, alas nothing so adventurous on my schedule, sadly…
It's a soul wrenching thing to witness. We already have plenty of national guard and authorities and volunteers from all over flooding into town. I am proud of what I heard President Biden say. He said that he is doing everything he can to free up any federal aid he can with no delays so recovery can start right away. I don't care how much I dislike him I am proud to hear him say that.
My nephew lives in Tampa, went to Orlando. Still waiting on him to check in. Probably nothing but him being elusive, as his is nature. Lol
People have to be absolute morons.... There was a number of idiots out driving around in this all night last night like it was some sort of game or joke. And of course many of them got stranded and flooded roads and then had to have someone come and get their ass out.
