    Your avoiding the question, how severe do you think it should be, do you think people should just have to license and record the buying of guns or do you think they should just outlaw them alltogether.

    And Taxpayer i appreciate your smartass comment.

    No. I'm giving you specifically what I think gun control should involve. The size of that license fee is dependent on the social costs generated by the higher crime rate.

    Lets talk theoretically for a second, just tell me what you think should happen, no costs or other bull you use as a plug.

    The issue is no different to any other example of 'negative externalities' market failure. The rational gun owner doesn't face the true costs of their behaviour. The fee internalises the externality, ensuring that we recover the deadweight loss associated with the coercive costs (i.e. crime).

    There are of course other issues, such as insufficient protection within the family (suggesting strengthening of regulations and targeted bans). But have to go now. Goodnight!
